A Pre-Service Teacher is a candidate who wants to expand their growth and knowledge of teaching through Universal development, as well as development in the classroom before stepping into Y1 of teaching in Denver Public Schools. In order to become a part of this pathways, you must be employed into a para role at a Title 1 school within Denver Public Schools AND partnered with one of our Teacher Preparation Partners to continue your educational development. As a pre-service teacher, you also have access to one of our Teaching Academies in Denver Public Schools.
**Please check out the tab for Teaching Academies for more clarity on this support channel.
Pre-Service Teachers were created in order to support our New-to-Role teachers and paras who wanted to transition to teaching. It gives space for teachers who want to develop more before stepping into Y1 of teaching through co-teaching, mentorship and coaching of our LEAP Framework. This avenue has shown much success for our growing teaching pool here in DPS. Our work towards equity is continued through this work by breaking down barriers for those who are trying to access Teaching as a career.
