English 2 units focus on the 9-10 Common Core State Standards with increased text complexity, blending novels, short stories, poems, and drama with nonfiction texts. An additional area of focus is on authors and perspectives from around the world blended with contemporary issues and ideas in American texts. Students engage in a variety of modes of reading, writing, language, speaking and listening, and collaboration through a series of formative and summative tasks that prepare them for tenth grade assessments and build towards college and career readiness.

English 3 units focus on the 11-12 Common Core State Standards, blending novels, short stories, poems, and drama with nonfiction texts. An additional area of focus is on seminal works of American Literature in the context of a global conversation. Students engage in a variety of modes of reading, writing, language, speaking and listening, and collaboration through a series of formative and summative tasks that prepare them for eleventh grade assessments and demonstrate college and career readiness.

Community College of Denver semester long Creative Writing course. This course examines techniques for creative writing by exploring imaginative uses of language through creative genres (fiction, poetry, and other types of creative production such as drama, screenplays, graphic narrative, or creative nonfiction) with emphasis on the student's own unique style, subject matter and needs.
This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-AH1 category which gives you 3 college Humanities credits.

This semester-long course emphasizes the planning, writing, and revising of compositions, including the development of critical and logical thinking skills. This is a writing course that stresses analytical, evaluative, and persuasive/argumentative writing. This course requires students to have social/emotional maturity because of the nature of the content.

This semester long course is equivalent to an introductory college-level English course, and all students in this course will learn to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate while reading from a variety of sources and genres (predominantly fiction) such as: narratives, biographies and autobiographies, novels, short stories, literary and social criticism, poetry, etc. to deepen their awareness of prose, poetry, and the English language. There is a heavy emphasis on discourse in this course.

Beginner ELD
is designed for Newcomer and MLL students at the early stages of English acquisition to earn a English/Language Arts credit toward graduation. Eligible students are MLLs at or near WIDA Levels 1-2.4 the year they take this course. This course can be combined with ELD Seminar to earn MLL students two additional English credits. Note: It is strongly recommended that ALL students complete the recommended sequence of English/Language Arts courses English 1, 2, 3, 4
ELD Seminar
is designed for: MLLs at any WIDA/ACCESS level, MLL students nearing the end of their high school career ( recommended as a senior year course), MLL students who may be in need of an additional English credit for high school graduation, MLL students who are taking a Dedicated ELD course in their senior year of high school. Available to all in-program Multilingual Learners.
