This course is designed to teach you the many layers of government and power including its origins, its structure and functions; the tension of power among stakeholders, the rights, roles and responsibilities of government and community members; the purpose of law and what makes a good law; and how to participate in all levels of government for the common good. We will dissect these topics through writing, research papers, discussions, group work, student led assignments and projects. To do this, you will apply a critical consciousness lens to examine the impact of the government power structure on various groups, particularly through a racial lens.Â
