Unit Title: Ways of Praying
Unit overview: Prayer is an essential means through which individuals and the Christian community deepen their relationship with God. In this unit students will explore a range of prayer forms (personal, communal and liturgical) and experience its different expressions, vocal prayer, meditation and contemplative prayer. Students will also become familiar with the pattern of the Church’s liturgical year and appreciate the significance of liturgy as public
worship.
Unit Title: Affirming Human Dignity
Unit overview: Scripture teaches that we are all made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). This belief informs much of the Catholic Church’s social and moral teaching and shapes our understanding of human relationships. In this unit students will be encouraged to deepen their understanding of the human person; the inherent dignity and equality of all people and Christian moral decision making.
Unit title: In the spotlight
Drama Text: Harry Potter and the cursed child, J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany
Unit overview: Students are introduced to the drama script form, exploring how meaning is shaped by these texts, with a focus on characterisation. The unit builds upon the conceptual foundation established in Have I got a story for you…prompting students to recognise that stories can be told powerfully in a range of forms and modes, each with their unique features. Through interpretive, analytical and practical engagement with a range of characters, either through the study of one extended drama script or a series of monologues, students will come to an understanding of the cadence, pitch, pace and tone of dialogue and how delivery of written dialogue contributes to meaning.
There will also be opportunities for students to investigate the aesthetics of a drama script and understand how composers structure their texts. By doing so they will be able to describe the distinctive rhetorical and aesthetic qualities of a text that contribute to its textual style, and reflect on these qualities in their own texts.
Unit Title: Data Classification and Visualisation, Linear Relationships and Properties of Geometrical Figures
Unit Overview: Students will construct, interpret and compare data displays. They will create and display number patterns; graph and analyse linear relationships. Students will also classify, describe and use the properties of triangles and quadrilaterals.
Unit Title: The Precious Drop of Life
Unit Overview: Humans need many things to stay alive, like food, air shelter and water. Other living things have similar needs and these needs are met by the natural resources on Earth. This unit will focus on the resource of water and how it is the responsibility of everyone to protect this vital, precious resource.
Unit Title: Water in the World
Unit Overview: Students examine water as a resource and the factors influencing water flows and availability of water resources in different places. They investigate the nature of water scarcity and assess ways of overcoming it. Students discuss variations in people’s perceptions about the value of water and the need for sustainable water management. They will also investigate processes that continue to shape the environment including an atmospheric or hydrological hazard.
Unit Title: The Mediterranean World - Ancient Egypt (continued)
Unit Overview: Throughout this unit, students will learn about Ancient Egypt- one of the greatest civilisations of the Ancient world. It was an important political, economic, and cultural power and, for a time, the most important power in the Mediterranean and Western- Asian world. Students will learn about the structure of Egyptian society and the influence of law and religion. They will examine the beliefs and values of Ancient Egyptians, including funerary customs. Students will build on their understanding of history and archaeology during this investigation into the Ancient world.
Unit Title: The Asian World - Ancient China
Unit Overview: Students will learn about Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di and the unification of China. This unit will explore the physical environment of ancient China and its influence on its people. They will also learn about key groups and individuals in Ancient Chinese society, specifically Chinese dynasties, and their impact on the people of the time. They will learn to understand the social structure and government, as well as their religious beliefs and customs. Students will develop an understanding of the expansion of trade and the importance of the Silk Road in China’s connection with other nations. They will continue to build on their understanding of history and archaeology during this investigation into the Ancient World.
Unit Title: Summer Fitness Survivor
Students participate in a variety of lifelong physical activities that promote good health and develop both the health and skill related components of fitness. Students will be reminded of the importance of a balanced lifestyle by reflecting on the components of health, personal benefits of participation in physical activity and their current physical activity levels. Students will be participating in these activities within a safe and supportive, yet competitive practical environment.

Unit Title: Still Life Objects
Unit Overview: Students experiment with a variety of media and techniques that explore and interpret the expressive qualities of still life in painting and drawing. They examine a range of artists and their artworks and learn how they can be interpreted from a critical and historical context. Students are guided to demonstrate their understanding of deep knowledge of artists and their artworks using appropriate language related to the still life genre. Learning strategies build upon individual research skills and comprehension to enhance art-related vocabulary and communication skills
Unit Title: Instruments of the Orchestra
Unit Overview: Students will learn about the four instrument families of the orchestra (strings, woodwind, brass and percussion). Students will develop musical literacy through the completion of a variety of aural and composition tasks. In addition to playing melodies from several famous orchestral pieces on the keyboard, students will also learn to perform a keyboard reduction of the orchestral piece Ode to Joy.
Unit Title: What is Technology?-Introduction Unit

Unit Overview: Technology is a broad, unique subject that encompasses many facets of society. This unit introduces students to the term technology, what it entails and develops an understanding of the design process, underpinning the fundamentals of Stage 4 Technology units.
These Units are Semesterised: Half will do these in Semester one and the other half in Semester two.
Unit Title: Robot Olympics
Unit Overview: The Digital Technologies context encourages students to develop an empowered attitude towards digital technologies, use abstractions to represent and decompose real-world problems, and implement and evaluate digital solutions. Students have the opportunity to become innovative creators of digital technologies in addition to effective users of digital systems and critical consumers of the information they convey.
This unit involves students using Microbit technology and mBots to produce solutions for a specific problem.
Unit Title: My Design Rules
Unit Overview: This unit of work involves students designing, producing and evaluating their own design using timber technologies to meet a design situation/brief provided by the school. They learn about a range of methods to communicate designs, including CAD and develop presentation techniques. Students learn about the tools, equipment and materials they use at the same time as developing their research skills. After teacher demonstrations ,students complete Onguard tests and demonstrate their own skills by completing a personalised material product.
