Unit Title: Stewards of Creation
Unit Overview: In this unit, students explore the Psalm; The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. The Scriptures and the Creed, inform our beliefs about God, creation and humanity. In this unit students will examine our belief that God is the source of all creation, and that all human beings have been called to stewardship. Students will be encouraged to explore positive ways to show care for all of God’s creation. This unit of work will be closely linked to the Interdisciplinary Unit with PDHPE & Science where students will work collaboratively to design a Sustainable product. Students will learn about how energy changes and the Earth’s renewable resources. Students will focus on Pope Francis’ Laudato Si and how this is guiding the ways in which Catholics see their humanity in action.
Unit Title: Sacred Scripture
Unit Overview: In this unit, students explore the great Christian story that is the Bible. They come to recognise and understand the Bible as the sacred text which reveals God’s loving relationship with all of humanity. Students will also explore the structure of the Bible along with some of its principal themes and they will become confident users of the Bible as they explore a range of scripture passages.
Unit Title: We are all visitors to this time and place… Hear our voice (Indigenous Poetry)
Unit Overview: Students will engage in a close study of the Poetry of Australia’s First Nations Peoples, where they will explore the representation and portrayal of the landscape, people and culture unique to Indigenous Australia. Students will study and respond to a variety of Indigenous poets and through a critical analysis they will develop an understanding of the ways poetry can shape ideas, reflect individuals and groups and enhance cultural understanding. Students will create personal responses that reflect their own culture paying specific attention to the stylistic conventions and language needed in order to create effective poems.
Unit Title: Algebraic Techniques, Angle Relationships and Indices
Unit Overview: Students will identify and use angle relationships, including those that exist with parallel lines, to find unknown sides and angles. They will generalise number properties to operate with algebraic expressions and will also explore the use of indices.
Unit Title: St Francis Food Truck Challenge
Unit Overview: This is an Interdisciplinary Unit with PDHPE and Religious Education where students will work collaboratively to design a Sustainable product. Students will learn about how energy changes and the Earth’s renewable resources. Students will focus on developing their questioning skills, conducting investigations and communicating their ideas, findings and information to an audience.
Unit Title: The Mediterranean World - Ancient Egypt
Unit Overview: Throughout this unit, students will learn about Ancient Egypt- one of the greatest civilisations of the Ancient world. It was an important political, economic, and cultural power and, for a time, the most important power in the Mediterranean and Western- Asian world. Students will learn about the structure of Egyptian society and the influence of law and religion. They will examine the beliefs and values of Ancient Egyptians, including funerary customs. Students will build on their understanding of history and archaeology during this investigation into the Ancient world.
Unit Title: The Asian World - Ancient China
Unit Overview: Students will learn about Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di and the unification of China. This unit will explore the physical environment of ancient China and its influence on its people. They will also learn about key groups and individuals in Ancient Chinese society, specifically Chinese dynasties, and their impact on the people of the time. They will learn to understand the social structure and government, as well as their religious beliefs and customs. Students will develop an understanding of the expansion of trade and the importance of the Silk Road in China’s connection with other nations. They will continue to build on their understanding of history and archaeology during this investigation into the Ancient World.
Unit Title: Water in the World
Unit Overview: Students examine water as a resource and the factors influencing water flows and the availability of water resources in different places. They investigate the nature of water scarcity and assess ways of overcoming it. Students discuss variations in people’s perceptions about the value of water and the need for sustainable water management. They will also investigate processes that continue to shape the environment including an atmospheric or hydrologic hazard.
Unit Title: St Francis Food Truck Challenge
Unit Overview: This is an Interdisciplinary Unit with Science where students will work collaboratively to design a Sustainable Food Truck.
Students will
explore the dietary and physical activity habits of young people in relation to the Australian Dietary Guidelines and the Australian 24 Hour Movement Guidelines
investigate the social and cultural influences on food choices
assess nutritional information including a critical analysis of media messages and food labelling
Unit Title: PE Sport, Culture and Athletics
Students explore the interrelationship between health and physical activity in maintaining a healthy, safe and active life through cultural and historical aspects of sport. They will have the opportunity to participate in culturally appropriate activities, and have learning experiences that integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games and historical games that have developed over time. Students will spend time developing and practising skills in the athletic events of running (including standing starts and crouch starts), long jump, shot put and discus.

Unit Title: Still Life Objects
Unit Overview: Students experiment with a variety of media and techniques that explore and interpret the expressive qualities of ‘Le Object’ in painting and drawing. They examine a range of artists and their artworks and learn how they can be interpreted from a critical and historical context. Students are guided to demonstrate their understanding of deep knowledge of artists and their artworks using appropriate language related to the still life genre. Learning strategies build upon individual research skills and comprehension to enhance art related vocabulary and communication skills
Music
Unit Title: Instruments of the Orchestra
Unit Overview: Students will learn about the four instrument families of the orchestra (strings, woodwind, brass and percussion). Students will develop musical literacy through the completion of a variety of aural and composition tasks. In addition to playing melodies from several famous orchestral pieces on the keyboard, students will also learn to perform a keyboard reduction of the orchestral piece Ode to Joy.
Unit Title: What is Technology?-Introduction Unit

Unit Overview: Technology is a broad, unique subject that encompasses many facets of society. This unit introduces students to the term technology, what it entails and develops an understanding of the design process, underpinning the fundamentals of Stage 4 Technology units.
These Units are Semesterised: Half will do these in Semester one and the other half in Semester two.
Unit Title: Robot Olympics
Unit Overview: The Digital Technologies context encourages students to develop an empowered attitude towards digital technologies, use abstractions to represent and decompose real-world problems, and implement and evaluate digital solutions. Students have the opportunity to become innovative creators of digital technologies in addition to effective users of digital systems and critical consumers of the information they convey.
This unit involves students using Microbit technology and mBots to produce solutions for a specific problem.
Unit Title: My Design Rules
Unit Overview: This unit of work involves students designing, producing and evaluating their own design using timber technologies to meet a design situation/brief provided by the school. They learn about a range of methods to communicate designs, including CAD and develop presentation techniques. Students learn about the tools, equipment and materials they use at the same time as developing their research skills. After teacher demonstrations ,students complete Onguard tests and demonstrate their own skills by completing a personalised material product.
Learning Intention: The Ignite Program, tailored by the SFCC staff exclusively for our Middle Years Learning students, is a collaborative effort between our educators and MyResilience, an external company specialising in resilience-building and strengths development.
This initiative is pivotal in fostering a deeper self-awareness among students, empowering them to effectively manage their relationships and enhance their learning capabilities. Developing strong communication and character skills is essential for effectively navigating both personal and academic domains. These skills are crucial for preparing individuals to tackle the ever-evolving challenges of the contemporary world.
