Learning Support

Many students require additional learning support. We offer learning support at Post Primary just as you may have experienced in Primary school. Learning Support classes are designed to help you with Literacy/Numeracy and/or Social and Emotional Skills. Ms Ward has already spoken to many of your Primary School Principals and Learning Support Teachers and with your parents and is already planning next year's Learning Support Timetable.

Depending on the level and type of support needed, Learning Support may take different forms. For example if you need extra help in English or Maths a second teacher may work with you and others within those classrooms. Learning Support also takes place in small groups or on a 1-1 basis in the Learning Support Classroom. If you have an Irish Exemption you may have Learning Support for some of those Irish classes.

You will have a couple of weeks to settle into school, meet all of your new teachers and try out your subjects before Learning Support Classes begin. The Learning Support Teacher will then meet with you, give you your Learning Support Timetable and discuss your learning plan with you. If you are receiving Learning Support, you will likely be working with several other students in your year group. The size of a Learning Support Group is normally less than five students so that extra attention can be dedicated to each student.

If you have any queries about Learning Support ask to speak with Ms Ward. My office is on the first floor beside R 3.
