Celebrating our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Commitments | Natural Sciences and Mathematics Spotlight
At the February 2021 meeting, the Diversity Action Group (DAG) celebrated one of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) Department's DEI commitments. Dr. Diara Spain, NSM Department Chair, announced the creation of a NSM DEI committee with faculty and staff. Their initial focus is on recruiting undergraduate and graduate students to serve as representatives on department committees. NSM Department aims to invite 4-5 students to participate on each committee and, ideally, at least one student can regularly attend meetings. Dr. Spain explained that including students in these conversations is a great opportunity to collect insight from graduating seniors while also recruiting juniors for ongoing input into department plans and procedures.
Future DAG meetings will spotlight 2021 strategic diversity plan submissions to celebrate the DEI in action across campus.
