New content is added monthly to Personify Health, keeping things fresh and engaging. Explore some of the new Journeys available and continue to make progress toward your goals in the new year. For many people, the holiday season is a time for good cheer, shopping, and family gatherings. For others, the holidays can be a hard time. Many people feel more stress, disappointment, guilt, and sadness this time of year. Practicing self-compassion can help soften some of that pressure. Instead of criticizing yourself for feeling overwhelmed or not meeting every expectation, try speaking to yourself the way you would to a close friend, with patience, understanding, and kindness. Giving yourself permission to feel what you feel can make the season a little more manageable and allow you to enjoy the small moments.
Do any of these statements sound like you?
All your free time leading up to the holidays is booked with errands and shopping.
You spent more than you budgeted on gifts and holiday items.
You said “yes” to too many parties and events.
You won’t get a full night’s sleep until after January 1.
You end up doing most of the work for family gatherings.
You honestly can’t wait until the holidays are over.
If more than a few of these are true for you, you can make small changes in the ways you celebrate the holidays to ease stress and stay healthy throughout the season.
Tips for a happier holiday:
Be reasonable. Don’t expect perfection. Give yourself and others a break and don’t get upset if things don’t go as planned. Enjoy the magical time of the year, but don’t expect it to solve your personal or family problems.
Manage your time and let others know what you can and can’t do. Don’t say “yes” when you really mean “no.”
Make a master to-do list. Write down everything you need to buy, make, bake or send. Now work on cutting down the list. What can you leave out?
Take care of yourself. Enjoy seasonal treats, but still aim to fill at least half your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. Get enough sleep and make time for exercise.
Shop within your budget. Worrying about money adds to the stress of the holiday season.
Give some of your holiday tasks to other family members. Carefully choose the events you want to attend. Celebrate with people whose company lifts your spirits. Focus on the true meaning of the holidays for you.
Welcome each moment along the way and not just the “special day.” For example, have fun with decorating the house, baking cookies, gift-wrapping, etc.
If you’re away from family and friends or have experienced the loss of a loved one, share your feelings of grief. Keep the demands on your time, energy, and wallet to a minimum. It’s okay to pass on an activity if you’re not feeling up to it.
Having a plan in place can help you to stress less during the holiday season. Setting healthy limits and expectations while still prioritizing self-care is key to making the holidays a favorite time of the year.

With only two months left of the year, it can be easy to push your goals aside and just wait for the new year as a “fresh start.” But there is never a perfect time to start (or even restart) on any goal or habit, including those related to your health. Even small, consistent actions now can build real momentum before the new year. You can make meaningful progress in just two months. Then, when 2026 arrives, you’ll already be moving strongly toward your healthiest self! Use the Healthy Habits feature in Personify Health to help you stay on track:
Open the Personify Health platform or app.
Go to Healthy Habits in the Home icon or under your dashboard.
Choose a habit you want to focus on that’s meaningful to YOU, like drinking more water, getting daily steps, or practicing mindfulness. The more you can identify why this habit is important, the more likely you are to sustain it.
Track your progress consistently and earn points for holding yourself accountable.
If you are not enrolled in the platform yet, you can register and get started earning points toward your Wellness Incentive Credits today. Visit the How to Join section of the MCCCD Personify Health website.
As the holidays approach, schedules fill up fast. Shopping lists, social gatherings, travel plans, and end-of-year deadlines can make the season feel like a blur. November’s theme of gratitude and mindfulness is a great reminder to pause, breathe, and bring intention back to everyday moments. Mindfulness simply means living in the present moment rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, and this includes how we move and eat.
Mindful Movement: Exercise shouldn’t stop during a busy season. In fact, busy and stressful times are often when we need exercise the most. Even if you miss a scheduled workout here or there, short movement breaks and stretching throughout the day can help increase endorphins and reduce stress. Don’t know where to start? Try a guided 10-minute exercise video and feel the difference. Try to make cardio as well as strength training and mobility exercises a part of your daily routine, even if that means a set of squats in between meetings, a walk before dinner, or some stretching as part of your night routine. Consistency always beats out intensity when it comes to exercise. Maybe exercise is one of the only times you have to dedicate fully to yourself, or maybe you use it as a way to bond with your family or loved ones. When we tune into movement as a reset rather than another obligation, it becomes easier to make it a habit. Make mindful movement a part of your daily routine, even if you don’t make it to the gym.
Mindful Eating: Mindful eating follows the same idea of slowing down to truly savor your food. The holidays often come with abundance, but mindfulness allows us to enjoy every flavor while also recognizing our body’s ability to tell us when we’re full. This can help reduce overeating, increase our food satisfaction, and improve our digestion. Mindful eating can also help us recognize environmental or emotional triggers that might cause us to eat even though we are not hungry. If you’re new to mindfulness or mindful eating, try this simple and quick guided mindful eating activity.
By training the brain to stay in the present moment, mindfulness can decrease negative thinking and increase overall happiness. While it’s hard not to constantly carry the mental load of our never-ending to-do list, practicing mindfulness is just like a muscle. The more we use it, the easier it becomes.
As part of MCCCD Open Enrollment Benefit Expos, biometric screenings and flu shot clinics will be available on all campuses, brought to you by Health and Wellness Professionals in partnership with Wellness Maricopa. A biometric screening provides a quick snapshot of your key health indicators, including:
Height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference
Blood pressure
Fingerstick blood test measuring cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood glucose levels
Educational review of your results
While a biometric screening doesn’t replace your annual preventive visit with your primary care provider (PCP), it’s a valuable way to stay informed about your current health status and identify areas to improve. Pair your screening with a flu shot to protect yourself and others this season. Prevention and proactive care are the best investments you can make in your health.
If you can’t make it in person to any of the college events, there is an option to schedule an off-site biometric screening using a voucher provided by Health and Wellness Professionals through Quest or Labcorp. Please note that these appointments can only be scheduled and completed during the Open Enrollment period of October 31 - November 21, 2025.
All full-time benefit-eligible employees enrolled in an MCCCD medical plan can learn more and schedule their biometric screening by following the instructions listed on the 2026 Open Enrollment College Benefit Events Website.
Hello everyone! My name is Emma Celoza, and I'm happy to step into my new role as Wellness Program Administrator.
A little bit about me - I've worked at Arizona State University, Banner Health, and most recently South Mountain Community College, in various health education and student services roles. I'm an Arizona native, and some of my favorite things include going to concerts, trying new group fitness classes, spending time outside (when it's not 100 degrees), and watching thriller movies.
My goal is to empower others with resources and skills to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle that is sustainable and works for them. I'm very excited to serve as an advocate in this community to promote positive health behaviors and contribute to a culture of wellness at MCCCD.
October marks a new quarter and the start of the last quarter of the year to earn points toward your Wellness Incentive Credits. Keep going strong, but if you haven’t joined the fun yet, it’s not too late to start! No matter where you are in your wellness journey, the Personify Health Platform is here to help support you.
The feature we are highlighting this month is Shoutouts. As human beings, we want to feel recognized, valued, and feel like we are making a difference. Think about the last time a colleague went out of their way to support you, or maybe someone from a different department went above and beyond to help you out. Why not brighten their day by sending a Shoutout? You can recognize their extra efforts or give some encouragement. Any reason is a good reason to say thank you. The Personify Shoutout feature allows for real-time, peer-to-peer recognition and appreciation through a personalized message. This feature helps boost team morale, encourages collaboration, and creates a documented record of positive interactions. Send a Shoutout today!
If you have not yet registered with the Personify Health platform and would like to learn more, please contact your Campus Wellness Rep or reach out by submitting an Ask Wellness Help Desk ticket.
The goal of National Dental Hygiene Month is to promote oral health education, encourage regular dental checkups and cleanings, and highlight the role of dental hygienists. Good dental hygiene can help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems. Poor oral hygiene can lead to various health issues that extend beyond the mouth and actually impact our overall well-being, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory problems, and cancer.
Remember that consistency is key! While you’re indulging in your favorite fall treats this season, make sure to still keep up with healthy dental hygiene habits:
Brush twice daily, once in the morning and once before bed, for two minutes each time. Don’t forget to brush your tongue too
Floss once daily
Visit your dentist twice a year for regular check-ups and cleanings
Quit smoking and avoid other tobacco products
Swish your mouth with water after every meal
Watch this video or read more to learn about the link between oral health and overall health and how to protect your oral health.
Alzheimer’s disease touches millions of lives, and together, we can make a difference. This year, Wellness Maricopa is proud to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a walk supporting Alzheimer's care, education and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease. We invite you, your family, and friends to walk with us as one team, united in purpose, compassion, and community spirit.
Why Join the Walk?
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than just a walk. It’s a powerful movement of solidarity, symbolized by the Promise Garden Ceremony, where each flower represents a participant’s personal connection to the cause. Whether you’re walking in honor of a loved one, as a caregiver, or simply to show support, your presence matters.
Blue: Someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
Purple: An individual who has lost someone to the disease.
Yellow: A person who is currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.
Orange: A participant who supports the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementia®.
Last year’s Phoenix walk gathered over 15,000 participants and raised more than $919,000, ranking #17 in the nation! This incredible momentum continues because of people like you who believe in creating a world without Alzheimer’s. Check out the recap video of the Phoenix walk!
Team Goals & How You Can Help
It’s completely free to register, and donations are optional. Donations go to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment, and, ultimately, a cure.

Friends and family are welcome to walk with us! This is a family-friendly, accessible event: wheelchair, walker, and stroller-friendly, and even dog-friendly (leashes required).

Self-care is a commitment to yourself, but integrating self-care into your life doesn’t have to be a big commitment. Small changes to meet your individual needs – whether it is emotional, spiritual, or physical – can help you feel like you are heading in a good direction.
A self-care assessment or the 8 Dimensions of Wellness is a great place to start for ideas. Below are some quick suggestions for each area, but you can also click on the dimension link to learn more and see specific tips for each dimension.
Spiritual Wellness - take time to focus on mindfulness and gratitude, or read or participate in any spiritual practices that resonate with your values or beliefs
Emotional Wellness - spend some time relaxing, journaling, or learn more about ways to improve your mental health
Environmental Wellness - spend time in nature or explore ways to create a healthier home environment.
Financial Wellness - create a personal budget or learn more about ASRS or the different retirement savings plans available through MCCCD
Intellectual Wellness - play some brain games or explore a new skill
Occupational Wellness - spend some time updating your resume, taking a training course, or visiting LinkedIn to collaborate with colleagues
Physical Wellness - take a walk, get a health check-up, or plan out some healthy meals
Social Wellness - spend time with a friend or volunteer in your community to meet new friends
Self-care does not have to be an all-or-nothing situation either. Each small step makes an impact on your health and well-being. Plus, you can celebrate the milestones you make to reach your goals for an added dopamine boost. Take some time for yourself today. You deserve it.

Personify Health has been part of the MCCCD culture for three (3) months now. As a reminder, we launched the platform on April 1, 2025. We are starting the second quarter as of July 1, 2025. We know that many of you achieved the 15,000 points very quickly this quarter. The quick path to very high point totals in the past quarter (April-June 2025) may have been the result of completing one-time activities, which significantly added to your point total (e.g., registration, setting up your profile, adding an activity device, etc.).
As we start the next quarter (July - September 2025), engagement inside and outside of the platform should be more regular and consistent to ensure you earn the points needed to achieve a maximum payout of $150 for the quarter. Read more about different types of activities you can engage in to ensure you are earning the full amount of points available to you.
If you have not yet registered with the Personify Health platform and would like to learn more, please contact your Campus Wellness Rep or reach out by submitting an Ask Wellness help desk ticket.

July is all about connection. While social wellness might not be the first thing we think of when it comes to well-being, it plays a vital role in how we move through life. Connecting with other people can be an interesting, exciting, and healthy part of being human. Moreover, social support is often integral to a person’s physical health and mental well-being. According to the APA, about 30% of Americans feel lonely, and this is more prevalent among younger generations.
Around the world, Social Wellness Month is celebrated each July. This month was established in the early 2000s to encourage people to build healthy relationships and improve their social well-being. For guidance in cultivating improved social wellness, it may be helpful to work with a licensed therapist. Find out more about social wellness.
We are a few months into our Personify Health Wellness Journey. We hope you are enjoying all of the opportunities for well-being inside and outside of the platform.
Remember, June will be the last month in the first quarter to earn points toward Wellness Incentive Credits, and then points will reset to “0.” If you have not yet registered with the Personify Health platform and would like to learn more, please contact your Campus Wellness Rep or reach out by submitting an Ask Wellness help desk ticket.
June is professional wellness month, a month dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the importance of maintaining our mental, emotional, and physical health in the workplace.
This designation has been around since the early 2000s as a way to encourage people to practice healthy social behaviors and build meaningful relationships with others. Social wellness is all about fostering positive connections, not just with family and friends, but also with our communities, colleagues, and strangers we meet along the way. From maintaining strong communication skills to making sure we take time for self-care, this month is a great reminder of the importance of connecting meaningfully with others. Read more.

September is national self-care awareness month. This month, set aside some time to take care of YOU. With our busy lives we often forget that the most important person in our lives is ourselves. Neglecting the opportunity for self-care can result in negative outcomes for YOU and your loved ones who you also want to succeed and be healthy. Typically we tend to put others' needs before our own (and that is noble), but it is essential that we first ensure our own well-being before passing on our message to others in need. We cannot fill another's cup from our own empty vessel. Find out more information on Self-Care Awareness Month.

The nice weather is here. Time to shed the extra clothes and enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures. We think of spring as a time for “renewal” and “beginnings.” Below are some tips as to how we can make this Spring one focused on wellness.
Wake up early: Mornings are a time to enjoy; and in Spring, the sun rises earlier each day. Take advantage of this by getting out for a morning walk or just enjoy the morning by curling up with a favorite book or with some music before you start your day.
Revitalize your fruits and veggies: Try something new or stay with your favorites. These fruits are (in season) in Spring: cherries, raspberries, nectarines, plums, pluots, and rhubarb. Here are some veggies to look for: artichokes, cucumbers, peas, peppers, squash, and tomatoes. Try to get 4.5 servings of fruits and veggies each day.
Make sure to get your z’s: Strive to get 6-8 hours of sleep per night. Staying up late and not getting enough sleep has been shown to increase the likelihood of overeating or making “bad” choices when it comes to health.
Schedule screenings or doctor’s appointments: It is always recommended that you check with your doctor or health professional before embarking on something new that can impact your health and well-being.
Update your attire: Now may be the time to go out and purchase a new pair of sneakers or lightweight clothing. If you are going to “spring into wellness,” you should make sure you are properly equipped before you do.
