Physical Wellness - Recognizing the need for physical activity, health food, and rest

Physical wellness encompasses the functional process of the body.  This dimension involves many areas: Sleep – are you able to obtain seven to nine hours of sound sleep most nights of the week? Health -related components of physical fitness - muscular strength, endurance, cardiorespiratory endurance and flexibility. Nutrition – food is fuel - what you put in your body affects you on many levels.

How is your preventive healthcare? Are you getting your regular checkups, being an advocate of your health by knowing your blood pressure, getting proactive exams such as a skin cancer exam, etc. Don't be in the dark, knowledge is power and the key to being proactive and not reactive to your health.

This dimension involves not only what you do, but what you are not doing.  For example, choosing not to use tobacco-products and choosing not to abuse substances. The way you take care of your body is the way it will take care of you.

Most folks know to be physically active!  Move, get up, stretch, get fresh air (when we are not in the Arizona heat)! But how are you really doing? Look at these three areas: stretching, cardio activity and strength training.  Stretching to improve your flexibility, physical activity to get your heart going, and strength training to keep your muscles toned.  Did you know that Yoga combines both benefits of flexibility and strength training?

Get an accountability buddy - you know you need support!  Support can come from someone you live with, or work with or a friend. You need to devise a plan to text and connect to support and hold each other accountable!
