This course’s purpose is to lay the cultural, technical and light engineering foundations of light design, to help the students develop the ability to define the light atmosphere of spaces through the right choice and positioning of light sources. In particular, the course deals with the illumination of public spaces and events.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 CFA credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Thoroughly understand light and the physics of light engineering
Acquire technical and methodological tools to choose the most suitable indoor light solutions in different project contexts
Become fully aware of the complexity and variety of approaches to light project, with a mature approach to the lighting design of interiors
Elements of optics and light engineering physics
Properties and types of light sources and light appliances
Designing natural light
Designing artificial light
Technical illumination for events
Light engineering calculation software
Light engineering simulations
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the different topics covered:
Classroom lectures
Debates, presentations, peer assessment
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Individual study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Written exams
Submission of exercises, projects or research works
Oral exams
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
All bibliographic details will be provided by the professors during the course. A lot of the referenced material, together with other indepth
study material, can be consulted online in MyNaba, in the Library section.
