APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course approaches the theme of community design, that is design focused on the development of products, spaces, events or services targeted at the community, based on the acquisition of effective methodological tools to research and implement projects, as well as on the investigation of different approaches to the project that come from an anthropological study of the community. The supplementary didactic module provides the enhancement of knowledge in the fields of community design and anthropology.
The programme grants 12 credits, divided as follows:
COMMUNITY DESIGN: 8 CFA
ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
COMMUNITY DESIGN:
Develop products, services, spaces for the community
Adopt efficient methodologies for projects that aim at the development of social innovation projects
Thoroughly analyse and understand a project brief
Carry out research to identify a wide reference system for personal projects
Efficiently represent the project
ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY:
Develop in-depth, thorough knowledge of advanced cultural anthropology and sociology concepts, focusing on some research themes that the disciplines share with demography and social history
Develop skills and methodological tools to approach crucial issues in this study field
COMMUNITY DESIGN:
Spaces, products and services for the community
Concept, moodboards, references, inspiration
Techniques, codes and languages used in community design
ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY:
Cultural anthropology and sociology
The anthropological idea of culture
Role of individuals in nowadays’ society
Ethnographic method, cognitive languages and processes, sensoriality and rationality
Anthropology of body and emotions as a unifying element for other cultural aspects
This is a theoretical/project based course. Over the course, the students will carry out didactic activities that are functional to achieving the learning goals, that in both modules may include:
Classroom lectures
Exercises and revisions
Field trips, workshops
Development of individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools for detailed study
The didactic modules that make the course will be assessed separately. The final grade will result from the weighted average of all marks. Assessment is based on a check of learnt skills and technical abilities, and may include:
Oral exam
Papers
Complete projects
Assessed revisions or mid-term tests
Further details on specific tests can be provided by the professors during the course. Assessment criteria include commitment, active participation and personal growth of the students during the course.
