APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course is committed to the development of one or more social design projects in cultural or entrepreneurial contexts, or within the scope of services to local communities. The project themes aim at defining a proper research and innovation laboratory in the field of social design. The supplementary didactic module provides further competences in project management in relation to the local and global economy system, on the relation between design and sustainability, on the necessary strategies to mindfully design for the cultural and social context where we live.
The programme grants 12 credits, divided as follows:
SOCIAL DESIGN LAB1: 8 CFA
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
SOCIAL DESIGN LAB 1
Acquire conceptual and methodological competences at the basis of social design projects
Study in-depth the theme of social design in different contexts
Independently and mindfully understand the project communication strategies, to create specific briefs
Develop and coordinate complete projects in social design, including not only the creative design, but also the identification of resources for its financial, sustainable development
PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Relate to residential, domestic and/or hybrid spaces in the local and global context of the contemporary world
Reach full awareness and command both of individual and group design projects, thanks to the understanding of the procedures as well as of the tools used for analysis, description and communication of the project itself
Use different tools for the development of interior design projects, as well as drawing and space representation techniques on paper, video and 1:20 models

Design practice for social activation
Spaces, products, events, services for social design
Financial sustainability of a project
Aesthetic codes and techniques for the communication of projects to the broad public
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Identify the objectives to be achieved and the constraints and contextual conditions to be taken into account
Know how to use the basic tools of the project manager's toolbox
Communicate and manage people effectively
Plan and track the achievement of the final output in the best way and manner
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Oral exams
Completion of comprehensive projects
Submission of exercises, projects or research works
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
