APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course revolves around the development of a temporary display project for a public indoor area, based on the theme of display design for cultural (exhibitions, museums, etc.) or commercial (stands, exhibition booths, etc.) contexts, or for local community services. The integrated didactic module provides further competences for the development of a project-based or curatorial researches, which could be dedicated to the exploration of the relations between design and art, design and fashion, to the analysis of contemporary trends, to the curatorial strategies in the field of contemporary art, museography, interactive installations.
The total credits for this course are 12, divided as follows:
EXHIBITION DESIGN: 8 CFA
PROJECT CULTURE: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
EXHIBITION DESIGN:
Acquire conceptual and methodological skills at the basis of display system design
Independently and mindfully understand the curatorship strategy of a project, so that they can create a specific brief with regard to the space fitting
Develop and coordinate a comprehensive project in exhibition design, which includes not only the display devices, but also the related graphical and visual communication
Go in-depth in the theme of display design in different contexts
Go in-depth in the techniques aimed at representing the fitting project
PROJECT CULTURE:
Acquire skills and methodological tools to develop curatorship researches within the contemporary global culture
Acquire skills and methodological tools to develop an original, personal and introspective design approach, inspired by the typical work methods of contemporary art
EXHIBITION DESIGN:
Fitting of exhibitions or museums
Fitting of commercial display areas
Fitting of events and/or temporary installations
Lighting engineering for exhibition areas and fittings
Techniques for the representation of the fitted space
Visual identity of an overall display project
PROJECT CULTURE:
Research and analysis of trends, in the contemporary society
Project curatorship strategies
Project introspective strategies
This is a theoretical/project based course. Over the course, the students will carry out didactic activities that are functional to achieving the learning goals, that in both modules may include:
Classroom lectures
Exercises and revisions
Field trips
Development of individual projects
Individual study and research
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools for detailed study
The didactic modules that make the course will be assessed separately. The final grade will result from the weighted average of all marks.
EXHIBITION DESIGN:
Assessment is based on the final project presentation and may include:
Oral exam
Complete projects
Assessed revisions or mid-term tests
The assessment criteria consider the quality of contents, the methodological consistency of the project, the ability to have control over all aspects of the project, and the quality of the space representation.
PROJECT CULTURE:
Assessment is based on proving research, processing and understanding skills, and can include:
Oral exam
Papers
Assessed revisions or mid-term tests
