APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course focuses on the development of an interior design project, aimed at deepening the understanding of meanings and values linked to public space projects, relational qualities of the space, link among space, men and objects. The integrated didactic module provides specific technical competences in the field of furniture and home accessories design.
The total credits for this course are 12, divided as follows:
INTERIOR DESIGN 2: 8 CFA
FURNITURE DESIGN: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
INTERIOR DESIGN 2:
Develop and manage a comprehensive interior design project
Perfect an efficient method to design interiors
Consider a project brief through personal judgment and question its implications
Carry out research to create new project scenarios
Create a persuasive visual representation of the project
FURNITURE DESIGN:
Acquire thorough and comprehensive knowledge of materials and technologies that are used in furniture design
Acquire methodological skills and tools to properly determine the furniture and home accessory design
INTERIOR DESIGN 2:
Public or semi-public spaces
Hospitality, restoration, free time spaces
Concept, moodboards, references, inspiration
Rendering techniques and aesthetic codes, and space visualization
FURNITURE DESIGN:
Features, properties and performance of materials for furniture design
Production systems for furniture and home accessories
Design of technical and construction details
This is a theoretical/project based course. Over the course, the students will carry out didactic activities that are functional to achieving the learning goals, that in both modules may include:
Classroom lectures
Exercises and revisions
Field trips
Development of individual projects
Individual study and research
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools for detailed study
The didactic modules that make the course will be assessed separately. The final grade will result from the weighted average of all marks.
INTERIOR DESIGN 2:
Assessment is based on the final project presentation and may include:
Oral exam
Complete projects
Assessed revisions or mid-term tests
The assessment criteria consider the quality of contents, methodological consistency of the project, maturity in the acquisition of design tools and quality of the space representation.
FURNITURE DESIGN:
Assessment is based on a check of learnt skills and knowledge, and may include:
Oral exam
Papers
Assessed revisions or mid-term tests
Further details on specific tests can be provided by the professors during the course. Assessment criteria include commitment, active participation and personal growth of the students over the course.
