TU 415_Stage 1

Stage 1 (both) Assessment, Reassessment & Progression

Successful completion of Stage 1 to receive the award of Postgraduate Certificate in BIM Technologies requires collection of 30 European Credit Transfer System credits (2 modules).

All modules are assessed as Pass/Fail only and the award is unclassified (i.e. you cannot earn a merit/distinction/2.1 etc.).

Typically, assessment includes multiple items (e.g. work on a model, a technical report, contribution to a forum, etc.) and all items must be attempted for successful completion of the module. This is specified in the Assessment and Module Assessment Thresholds sections of the module descriptor available here.

It is very important that every student makes themselves familiar with the assessment requirements of each module that they undertake.

Penalties for Late Submission

Late submissions are handled through TU Dublin's Personal Circumstances progress detailed here.

The implications of late submission without valid reason (i.e. because of reasons detailed as not acceptable on the institute's Personal Circumstance 1 form linked above) are both academic and financial.

Academic

The result of the module will be recorded as Refer in the standard academic session. This will be permanently recorded on your Student Transcript.

When your results are issued by the Examinations Office in June / July, you will receive a Supplemental Exam Form and you are required to follow the instructions for registering as detailed Here

Although our programme has no examinations, the repeat assessments are handled under DIT's Supplemental Examination process.

Financial

When registering for supplemental assessment, an appropriate fee must be paid as detailed HERE

Reassessment

If you fail to reach the required standard for passing a module, you can repeat that module at the next available sitting (typically the supplemental period in Autumn).

The exception to this is the Lean & Digital Construction Collaboration (LDCC) module. In LDCC, if the referral is deemed by the lecturers to be the result of inadequate participation in the team-based requirements of the module, the student is required to internally repeat the module during the next academic session. Internal repeat forms can be found at the "Student Services Forms" Link HERE

Reassessment after Supplementals

In any module, if a student has not reached the required standard after reassessment during the supplementals, the module must be repeated as an External or Internal repeat as detailed at the "Student Services Forms" Link HERE

Internal repeats require the approval of the School because of the resource implications (i.e. is sufficient space available in the class).

If you register to repeat externally, you must record that registration with smdt.adm@tudublin.ie and contact the associated module lecturer as soon as possible to ensure that sufficient time is available to successfully complete the assessment, which may be different from the assessment that was set at the original sitting and/or supplemental).

Progression

Progression into Stage 2 is available to all students upon successful completion of the appropriate combination of 30 credits of stage 1 modules.

As stage 2 focuses on multidisciplinary collaboration, in circumstances where an imbalance of disciplines is forseen, you may be advised of this situation and given two options:

  • to continue to stage 2 in full knowledge that the multidisciplinary teams may have an imbalance of disciplines.

  • to delay undertaking stage 2 until a subsequent academic session. In this situation, the Postgraduate Certificate in BIM Technologies will be issued for the intervening period.

Progression if Stage 1 is incomplete

In exceptional circumstances, and only with the approval of the Programme Committee & Management, a student may be allowed to progress to stage 2 without successfully completing the 30 credits of Stage 1. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis and will require the student to produce appropriate supporting evidence.
