Assessment, Reassessment & Late Penalties

Commitment

To successfully complete a part-time MSc, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate programme, during the academic year students should reserve a minimum of 12 hours per week for programme-related activities.

Typically a number of hours will be spent in scheduled class activities (normally 6 hours per week) and the remaining hours will be spent in self-directed learning and carrying out project work.

A 5-credit module represents an average of 100 learning hours. With 24 hours of contact, this means that up to 76 hours of self-directed learning may by required to achieve the Learning Outcomes of the module.

To facilitate students already in employment, attendance in college will generally take place from 18.00 - 21.00 on weekdays. However, due to Government regulations around Covid 19 we will deliver these 6 hours through blended learning ( online) until the University is satisfied for students to return to classroom based teaching. At present, due to Government regulations around Covid 19 we will deliver classroom based teaching hours through online learning. Additional learning can be achieved remotely and online through the resources detailed in the Accommodation & Facilities Section of the School Handbook.

Assessment & Feedback

Assignments typically fall due mid-module and/or within 1-2 weeks of the end of the module. As the modules are typically delivered over 4/8 or week blocks this means that the requirement to deliver on self-directed learning is continuous. The exact submission dates will be communicated by the module lecturer via the Brightspace VLE.

The continuous nature of assessment must be built into your planning for successful participation in and completion of the programme, as deadlines for submission will be strictly enforced.

Feedback on assignments will be provided within 2 weeks of handup (unless exceptional circumstances occur). This feedback must be used by students to improve subsequent assignments and submissions. This is particularly important in modules that are appraised as pass / fail only.

Late Submissions General

Late submissions of assignment are only allowed with the permission of the relevant lecturer and the submission of the TU Dublin's Personal Circumstances 1 form with supporting evidence.

Pressure of work is not a valid reason for use of a Personal Circumstances Form.

Details of valid cases for extensions / exceptional consideration are provided on the above form.

        • Stage 1: all modules must be independently passed; no compensation applies between modules.

        • Stage 2: Compensation only applies between the core modules; elective modules, because they are graded pass / refer only, must be passed.

        • All stages: thresholds of 30% apply on all assessment components of all non-elective modules. Varying requirements apply to elective modules.

        • MSc in BIMM (Research): Students must pass the Research Methods module through submission of the appropriat Research Proposal (Major) form before commencement of the Capstone Experience (Major) with Agile Project Management module. Students who wish to undertake the Capstone Experience including Agile Project Management (Major) module are required to take part in a mber of additional Major Capstone Experience Workshops (MCEW) to ensure that the additional requirements of a major capstone are fully understood and to support the students in identifying a research question / hypothesis, methodology, and potential solution that are of sufficient merit.
