Is there a way to add the options drop-down to the features that a teacher can turn on/off for students in data desk? Students are going into the settings and making changes to just play around. It would be nice to disable the options drop down on the toolbar for students.
Answer from Read & Write 12/5/18: I can add that as a feature request. (Hiding the options icon on the toolbar)
If a teacher turns a feature on for a student can the student still go in to his/her options and remove the feature from the toolbar? This issue is causing problems for teachers when students are turning features off, such as voice notes, and then students are not able to access the voice note the teacher left in Google Docs.
Answer from Read & Write 12/5/18: When a teacher leaves a feature on the toolbar, students can still go and manually hide it. Voice notes will appear for anyone, even if they do not have Read&Write installed. If the voice notes are not appearing for someone, the owner of that Doc will need to share the voice note folder with that person. This is done from their Google Drive.
One of the most common requests we’ve gotten from Read&Write for Google Chrome users has been the ability for teachers to easily manage student access to features. This is important during testing scenarios, for example, when teachers don’t want students in one class to use a dictionary or other support feature while they’re taking a test.
That’s where Data Desk, a feature management tool for Read&Write for Google Chrome, comes in. With Data Desk, teachers using Google Classroom can simply pick a class, select individual (or all) students in that class, and choose which features should or should not be available to those students. Teachers can even set a time limit for how long they’d like the new feature set to be active.
