Except in the central mountains, temperatures don’t vary much in the Dominican Republic, averaging a summery 81ºF (28ºC) to 87ºF (31ºC) in most places for much of the year. Tropical humidity can make the temperatures feel higher, though sea breezes help mitigate the effect. The rainy season is May to October, though on the north coast it can last until December.

Suggested Packing List:

Must - Haves:

• Passport. Must be valid for up to 6 months after your scheduled departure date from Dominican Republic

• Travel size, hand sanitizer

• Work gloves for service project in the community

• Shoes for worksite that could get dirty with dried concrete!

• Protective eye wear (for those who wear contacts)

• Bug Spray, sun block

• One refillable water bottle

• Day Bag (important for carrying sun block, water bottle, snacks, masks & hand sanitizer)

Clothing:

• Light Sweatshirt for cool evenings & mornings

• Rain coat (light weight, water resistant for sudden, unexpected tropical showers)

• Short-sleeved shirts

• Gym / sportswear (for hiking / working) **We recommend for participants to bring longer shorts instead of running high shorts for community days. This is important. No spandex.

• Under garments, socks

• Bathing suits

• Shorts

• Long pants (jeans are not recommended to work in)

• Hat

• One pair of flip flops / sandals / water shoes

• One pair of tennis shoes / closed toe shoes (these are for hiking and WILL get dirty from service work)

Bath / Personal:

• One towel - for swimming / beach

• Personal medication, if susceptible to sea sickness, then Prescription sea sickness pills or patch, for snorkeling tour. 

• Glasses / contacts / contact solution

• Personal toiletries

• Shampoo

• Sunscreen

Other:

• Books for downtime

• Card game, or travel games for downtime

• Watch or small alarm clock

• Mini-flashlight / headlamp. Most smartphones have flashlights, that will suffice. 

• Sunglasses, particularly if you’re sensitive to sunlight

• Personal snacks that you may need or crave (such as granola bars or power bars) for in between meals & travel days. 

• Camera (smartphone). 

Provided:

• Linens / blankets

• Pillow

• Hand soap

• Bath towel 

• Electrical adapters are not needed. 

*Laundry service is available at the lodging for a nominal charge. We advise that you should bring enough lightweight clothes to avoid having to do laundry during the trip. 

*Electrical outlets in the Dominican Republic are the same as in the United States. Voltage is 110-120 volts. There is no adapter needed if coming from the U.S.
