Students at DGS in grades 6-8 enrol in four Core Classes conducted in English: Social Studies, English Language and Literature, Mathematics and Science. These courses are concept-based and inquiry-driven and are tied to key international standards such as Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. The core classes in the middle school will prepare students for high school. Importantly, courses are designed to stress engagement, critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and important habits and approaches to learning as outlined in the DGS Deltas.
Advisory is designed to foster a sense of belonging and community at DGS. It features a close relationship with a trusted adult and bonds between students. Advisory addresses skills that support academic success as well as interpersonal and communication skills. Advisory emphasizes “Habits of Mind” which are attitudes towards learning that support success.
Students in grades 6-8 are also enrolled in Vietnamese classes designed to prepare them for national examinations at the end of Grade 9. Courses are offered in Mathematics, Vietnamese literature, History and Geography. Vietnamese science concepts, content and skills are covered in Core Science.
