WORLD BOOK DAY
World Book Day brought a brilliant book buzz across the school as children and staff arrived wearing some of the most creative outfits to date.
From wonderful wizards and wicked witches to strong superheroes and creative chocolatiers… there really was a character to inspire all of us. Some of the more unique efforts included a Collins dictionary and a fairy tale forest scene….choosing the best dressed really was tough!
During the day, children took part in a special Jungle Book themed performing arts workshop. This proved to be a very exciting way of getting into the shoes of some classic book characters, scenes and plots.
Our families and staff made a fantastic effort, bringing so many amazing characters to life within the classrooms, corridors and playgrounds. Our school’s love of reading was very apparent.
RED NOSE DAY BAKE OFF
Our Red Nose Day was a huge success! So many families contributed delicious bakes for our ‘Bake Off’ competition. It was fantastic to see so many of you supporting our bake sale! It turns out a lot of our families and staff like cake, your support helped to raise a total of £291.50, these funds will be equally divided between Comic Relief and Devonshire Hill.
We would like to offer a huge congratulations to those of you who were awarded for your brilliant bakes. We presented certificates under four categories; star baker, most delicious bake, best presented bake and most creative bake.
BIG EASTER RAFFLE 2025
Congratulations to our 2025 Easter Raffle winners and a huge thanks to everyone who donated. Your generosity meant that 40 prizes could be awarded and lots of happy children were able to take away a fantastic Easter hamper. This event raised a total of £278 pushing our 2024/25 fundraising total to £2,622.50!
Our Fundraising webpage is looking fantastic and we are so close to reaching our goal for the academic year. For more information about the fantastic FUNdraisers we have hosted so far this year please visit https://devonshirehill.com/news/fundraising/
SCIENCE WEEK
The theme of Science Week 2025 was ‘Change and Adapt’. We asked our families to apply their creativity and produce a vibrant and unique poster which explored this theme. Their entries covered a broad variety of ideas, from chameleons and cacti to climate change. Well done to everyone who submitted a design and congratulations to the ten winners who were selected from across the school for having the best poster designs. Winners from Nursery to Year 2 were presented with a special science themed book and the winners from Year 3 to Year 6 were able to attend a trip to the Science Museum’s Wonderlab.
EXAM SEASON
Exam season is upon us! Children in Year 6 have been working really hard to prepare for their KS2 SATs, they are looking forward to enjoying a healthy breakfast together on each morning of their exams. Additionally, children in Year 4 are working really hard at knowing their times tables with confidence for their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. Finally, children in Year 1 are developing and applying their phonetics knowledge to read ‘alien words’, also known as pseudo words, in preparation for their Phonics Screening Check. Daily practise at home will support your child to feel confident when taking part in their statutory assessments which take place on the following dates
Y6 SATs
Monday 12 - Thursday 15 May 2025 - 8am
Y4 Multiplication Tables Check
Monday 2 June - Friday 13 June 2025
Y1 Phonics Screening Check
Monday 9 June - Friday 13 June 2025
SPURS STARS
Five very lucky children in KS2 were recently offered the incredible opportunity to be part of the Spurs Legends event at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium. They were selected not only as keen fans of our local football club but also for their regular enthusiasm and participation in sport.
During their visit our fantastic five were fortunate enough to be a part of the Chirpy parade and to support as flag bearers on the football pitch alongside legendary Spurs players including Ledley King and Robbie Keane. ‘I felt nervous when we were about to go on the pitch, there were so many fans. I was so excited when our names were announced by the commentator.’
The children even saw Devonshire Hill families in the stands, what a brilliant way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
HOLIDAY CAMP
Children from the local community had a wonderful time at the recent Dalmage Active Holiday Camp. Those who attended were from a variety of local Haringey primary schools, including Devonshire Hill! The two week camp offered a number of activities throughout the day including sports, crafts and games.
One highlight of the week was a surprise visit from Haringey’s Councillor Zena Brabazon who gave a glowing review about her visit via Haringey Council’s YouTube channel.
