ATTENDANCE AWARDS
Congratulations to all children who received a certificate at our recent attendance celebration! This term, three different awards were presented including our newest awards for most improved attendance. A total of 64 children received certificates for having 100% Attendance during Autumn Term. Most Improved Attendance was awarded to a total of 20 children across the school. Year 3 Coral Class won the title of ‘Most Improved Class’ for their impressive attendance increase from 87.7% in Summer 2024 to 94.5% in Autumn 2024.
The school’s inflatable obstacle course offered a very energetic treat for 100% attendees who were joined by members of the Tull House for their incredible house points victory! Additionally the most improved attendees had a special invitation to a fun filled afternoon at Ms Letitia’s Pizza Party. This was a huge hit with the children, ‘we played pin the pepperoni on the pizza…made a paper pizza, and played board games, it was so fun. We also danced and I got an attendance sticker…I went back to class with a smile on my face.’
Our next attendance event will take place in the Summer term. To be in for a chance of joining the fun, you must make every effort to improve your attendance by coming to school every day. For more information, please follow the link to our attendance webpage where you will find useful information about when to keep your child home from school, term time leave and reporting an absence.
GREAT MENTAL HEALTH
To recognise the importance of great mental health, Devonshire Hill Nursery & Primary School recently took part in some very creative and unforgettable events. Activities included making wellbeing hats with our families and enjoying a performance by VIP guest, rapper and mental health advocate Shocka!
Our Great Mental Health Day hat parade welcomed a sea of vibrant homemade hats. Each unique creation had its own important message aimed at raising awareness and offering words of encouragement including; 'be kind to your mind', 'mental health matters', 'follow your dreams', 'show compassion' and 'connect with others'. The hats are now on display around the school, they serve as a constant reminder that mental health matters!
VIP SHOCKA!
In addition to our hat parade, children in KS2 also attended a very powerful assembly with Streetz Ahead. During the assembly, we discussed the importance of expressing our feelings and talking to someone that we trust. British rap artist Shocka offered his words of encouragement acknowledging the importance of being there for one another. Shocka closed the assembly with an energetic and uplifting performance of his song ‘Unite’. The energetic beat and positive lyrics had the children singing and dancing along. Remember, to always talk to someone and to unite.
Shocka very generously left us with 10 signed pictures from his performance at our school - keep your ‘eyes peeled’ for a special Shocka themed raffle!
CHINESE NEW YEAR
Chinese New Year 2025 is the year of the snake. Children and families at Devonshire Hill celebrated with a fantastic performance organised by our Mandarin and Chinese Language Teacher, Mr Lin. To symbolise good luck, prosperity and happiness. The performers, staff and the children in the audience wore red throughout the day. Our families enjoyed watching the children sing songs in Mandarin, the language taught at our school by Mr Lin to children in Year 3 to 6.
As the 2025 zodiac is of the snake, we held a create a snake competition, the winning designs were awarded a special certificate after eating a delicious chinese themed lunch!
SPUST STADIUM TOURS
Our school was offered a fantastic opportunity for all children in Year 1 to Year 6 to attend a tour of Tottenham Hotspur stadium. All tours have now taken place and the children had the most incredible time exploring the inspiring architecture, learning about the history of Spurs and discovering the players’ facilities and memorabilia.
Our families made some very generous contributions towards their child’s place on this trip, and we can now confirm a total of £534.00 was raised from these events!
Thankyou to everyone who took part and congratulations to all of the children who won Spurs merchandise as part of this initiative. We are so very lucky to have such supportive families and such incredible facilities within our community.
CARS GO FAST WORKSHOP
Haringey Shed recently toured local primary schools to deliver their performance and workshop ‘Cars Go Fast on Tottenham High Road’. Commissioned by Smarter Travel Haringey, this educational event captured the attention of children in Year 5 and Year 6 at Devonshire Hill Primary School. The modern and relatable storyline referenced the local area while teaching an invaluable message about the importance of road safety.
A Haringey Shed representative tells us ‘the aim of the show is to educate young people around road safety ahead of independent travel and transitions to secondary school. It explores the ways in which young people can be more aware of risks and make informed choices whilst being fun and engaging.’
VALENTINES DISCO
The end of term came to a close with a fantastic day of singing and dancing at our Valentine’s Disco FUNdraiser. Excitement across the school is always high on a disco day, children in Nursery through to Year 6 each got some time with their friends under the flashing lights and glistening disco ball. Thankyou to everyone who participated by dressing up and making their donation. There were some very impressive outfits and your generosity raised a total of £132. Our FUNdometer now totals at £2,141.65 and can be seen on the school’s fundraising webpage alongside lots of photographs from our recent FUNdraising events. These funds have already begun to benefit our children and will continue to do so as we raise more funds each term.
HOME LEARNING
So many outstanding projects were presented in our Spring Term Home Learning Assemblies. Children across Year 1 to Year 6 were beaming with pride as they presented their latest creations to their friends and families. There was something for everyone to feel inspired and intrigued by, including mountains, cacti, musical instruments and architecture. The corridors are full of these brilliant projects, we could easily learn a new fact each day from some of the wonderful writing which accompanies each one. Well done to everyone who took part, judging by the quality of the projects which are being created, the 2025 Headteacher’s Awards is going to be magnificent!
As a reminder, the next Home Learning Projects are due on Friday 28 March, additionally children who have received their Gold Star Award by Friday 16 May will also be invited to participate in the Headteacher’s Awards…keep up the incredible work everyone.
OPEN AFTERNOON SUCCESS
Our February Open Afternoon for parents/carers was filled with positivity. The children were excited to share their success by reading through their exercise books and sharing their work with their families. Parents/carers and staff were full of supportive comments and encouraging advice. In addition to the classrooms being filled with visitors, the Main Hall was energetic with Dance Giants rehearsals and Dalmage Active archery practise. Thankyou to everyone who toured our fantastic facilities with their child(ren). It really is amazing to be able to share with you our Music & Performing Arts Studio, STEAM Engine, Library, Dining Hall, on site Forest School March Wood, and all of the fantastic work on display. The next Parent/Carer Open Afternoon takes place on Thursday 10 July, save the date for the final meet of the year where you will be able to collect your child’s progress report and take some of their work home.
