VALENTINES DISCO
Support from the Devonshire Hill community towards our fundraising efforts has been incredible this year. We extend our gratitude to everyone who donated for both charity events and Devonshire Hill FUNdraisers.
Funds raised by Devonshire Hill FUNdraisers will always be spent on enhancing experiences for children at Devonshire Hill. Most recently we have installed brand new lighting in time for this year's Valentines Disco. Children and staff had an amazing time singing and dancing under the brand new disco lights and mirror ball, which made this year's event extra special!
So far this year we have raised:
£91.30 - Great Mental Health Day
£380.80 - Children in need
£106.65 - DH Giant Bear Raffle
£88.00 - DH Clothing Collection
£209.89 - Save the Children Jumper Day
£395.00 - DH 2023 Calendars
£194.65 - DH Tree & Hamper Raffle
£85.00 - DH Star decorations
WORLD OF WORK
Children across the school had some incredible experiences during World of Work Week. An exciting variety of workshops and trips taught our children about different careers including those working with animals, robots and machines, the community, and money. Children in Year 5 learned about the importance of ethical businesses while Year 6 put their entrepreneurship skills to the test, they even attended a 'Dragons Den' style meeting to present their work!
Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day!
Children will be participating in lots of exciting activities aimed to inspire a love of reading! All children and staff are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Donations can be made on the day or via the ParentMail Shop.
GREAT MENTAL HEALTH
On Friday 20th January all children and staff were invited to design a hat to wear to school to raise awareness for Great Mental Health Day. Together all of the hats made by our families create a beautiful and unique collection. A selection of the most unique hats were on display at The Mall in Woodgreen for the duration of the official Great Mental Health day. Our families were inspired by:
Hopes and dreams
Health and happiness
Memories and favourite things
I am unique and special
This event raised a total of £91.30 and funds raised will go towards supporting wellbeing at Devonshire Hill. Keep your eyes 'peeled' for the new display of hats during your next visit!
After School Clubs available until 5.45pm!

We are asking all children and staff to create a 'Jolly Jar' to donate for a special Red Nose Day raffle.
Step 1: Find a clean jar to recycle
Step 2: Decorate it beautifully in red
Step 3: Fill your jar with exciting goodies
Step 4: Donate the jar and buy a raffle ticket
Suggestions for your Jolly Jar:
ribbon, stickers, stationary, wrapped sweets/chocolate, origami, positive messages, candles, party toys etc...
Raffle tickets will be available via Parent Mail or at the Main Office closer to the event.
Funds raised will be divided equally between Comic Relief and Devonshire Hill.
EASTER BUNNIES!
A huge welcome back to Lola and Thunder who have returned from their winter break! We are very excited to announce that the Rabbit After School Clubs will commence from next week and you can register your interest in attending all clubs using the After School Club form at: www.devonshirehill.com/parents/extra-curricula/
Of course all Easter bunnies need Easter eggs! We are now calling for Easter Eggs of all shapes and sizes to hold a 'eggciting' raffle at the end of Spring Term.
Please bring all donated treats to the Main Office ready for Lola and Thunder to inspect and to be built into beautiful hampers and prizes for our end of term raffle.
TALK FOR WRITING
We have recently launched the new 'Talk for Writing' programme in our English lessons. This highly-researched, effective programme promotes vocabulary development alongside writing skills.
All the classes have enjoyed learning to recite their model texts, before moving onto inventing their own characters, settings and events to write their own stories. 'Washing lines' have been installed in each classroom, where teachers peg up notes from their lessons, so that pupils can refer back to prior learning throughout the process.
The programme is aimed at supporting children with their grammar and writing skills, taught in a very fun way. If you would like to know more information, please ask your child's teacher.
The school Book Fair is coming at the end of March! This is the perfect opportunity to choose a new book for your home collection. Don't forget to record all reads in your reading record so that you can work towards your next reading award.
SUCCESS!
Our school is 'significantly above national average' and we are in the highest 20% of schools nationally.
We are delighted to announce that Devonshire Hill have had brilliant outcomes for attainment in reading, mathematics and English (grammar, punctuation and spelling).
This means that our Year 6 Successful Learners left Devonshire Hill with an excellent education and were well prepared for Secondary School.
