SEVEN YEAR SUCCESS!
This year, a new and very exciting announcement has caused an energetic stir amongst our community as The Devonshire Hill Nursery & Primary School celebrated something incredible.
There is always a deep sense of achievement as the academic year draws to a close and 2023/24 has been no exception. Children, staff, and families united to celebrate so many fantastic accomplishments during the final term. Events included Olympic Sports Presentations, Home Learning celebration, The Headteacher’s Awards, end of year performances, Year 6 Graduation and 100% attendance...As the Headteacher announced that Marco Simms had attended school every single day from September 2017 to July 2024, the audience were in awe of his incredible achievement. The Main Hall came alive with claps and cheers as Marco made his way to the stage to collect his award and a very special prize.
Marco tells us ‘I never knew I was going to get that prize…a football signed by Mason Mount. I was so surprised, my family and friends were so surprised… It is important to go to school every day, for better education, and to be super successful like a footballer or an engineer. You should just really enjoy school, when you leave primary school you will miss it and you can’t go back’.
Headteacher Julie D’Abreu expressed her congratulations; ‘on behalf of the governing body, staff and families at our school I would like to congratulate Marco and his family. What a fantastic example you set for those children following in your footsteps. We wish him the best of luck in his new Secondary School and hope to hear of even more fantastic achievements as his learning journey continues.’
Congratulations Marco, your family, friends and the Devonshire Hill community are extremely proud of you!
FAREWELL Y6
As our most recent Year 6 graduates move onto the next chapter of their successful learning journey we can’t help but reflect on what a wonderful year group they are.
They have been fantastic role models for those following in their footsteps and we know that you will all go on to follow your dreams and achieve great things. The children celebrated their friendships, success and new beginnings with a Haringey Shed end of year performance, a Forest School BBQ in our very own March Wood, Prom and Graduation Ceremony. We hope you all had a fantastic last term at Devonshire Hill Primary School and wish you all the greatest success in your new secondary school. Don’t forget to get in touch and tell us all about your next chapter, we really enjoy hearing all about how our former pupils are getting on. Remember you are resilient, successful learners for life.
HEADTEACHER'S AWARDS 2024
This year we celebrated the ninth year of an annual tradition with eighty outstanding projects being submitted for the 2024 Headteacher's Awards. Each creation is made to the highest standard, it is evident that children and their families had dedicated a lot of time and effort towards producing something unique and impressive.
This year’s event was joined by the school’s Chair of Governors Michelle Moss who was extremely impressed by the broad variety of projects being presented. From ancient Rome to the solar system, saving the planet to hobbies and sports, there was something to inspire everyone.
Congratulations to those who took part this year and a huge well done to everyone who made it to their Gold Star Award!
TINY FOREST DISCOVERY
Earlier in the year children, families and staff helped to plant our brand new ‘Tiny Forest’. Some special visitors recently came to run our very first ‘Discovery Day’ where children and staff were able to come together and learn more about the benefits of this fantastic space and why it is so important. World of Work Week gave this session an interesting twist which focused our attention on jobs which are important to the outdoors which included conservation, nature, and maintenance roles. We hope everyone had a fantastic time taking care of the trees and wildlife.
END OF YEAR ASSEMBLIES
There were so many proud families at our End of Year Performances which took place throughout the Summer 1 Term. Children were very excited to showcase their achievements of the academic year in a short performance. We hope our families have enjoyed the class performances as much as we have. We are sure you will agree that the children have grown so much, not only in their knowledge but in their confidence as well. We can’t wait to see them in action during the next academic year!
500 WORDS FINALISTS
Children across multiple educational settings in Haringey were invited to participate in the most recent LIT project to write the most impressive story using either 5, 50 or 500 words. The competition had a fantastic response with many entries submitted from across various educational settings in Haringey. We are particularly proud of two young authors from Devonshire Hill. The two Year 4 children were awarded as finalists for their fantastic entries, one of which received an impressive 3rd place. Well done to everyone who took part, if you missed out on this opportunity remember to check our competitions webpage.
OPEN AFTERNOON
It was fantastic to invite our families to our Open Afternoon to meet their child’s class teacher and explore their child’s learning environment as the academic year comes to a close. It was wonderful to see so many visitors which included lots of proud parents/carers as they left school with their child’s end of year report. We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the first Parents/Carers Session of 2024/25 which will take place on Thursday 19th September at 3.30pm. Please save the date in your diary for this very important meeting with your new class teacher where parents/carers are invited to come and find out more about the year ahead and how this looks for their child(ren).
CHAPTER ONE
This year we celebrated our second year of working with Chapter One. This valuable project offers children additional reading time through the use of technology. During each school day children await a video call from one of the Chapter One volunteers through the classroom laptop. During their session the volunteer and appointed child read together in support of boosting reading confidence.Children in Year 1 were awarded a certificate to acknowledge their participation.
We are very much looking forward to continuing our journey with Chapter One!
