AVID 11/IB TOK Syllabus Sample
During the Spring semester, AVID Juniors will take advantage of a unique opportunity. AVID Scholars will visit six college campuses across Northern and Southern California! Scholars typically visit UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on day one. After staying overnight at a hotel near San Luis Obispo, Scholars will visit UC Santa Cruz and UC Merced on day two, followed by Fresno State and Cal Poly Pomona on day three!
This three-day-two-night field trip around California is exclusively offered to AVID Juniors at LQHS! Some tour details, including specific campuses, are subject to change each year.

During the 2023-2024 school year, for the first time ever, LQHS AVID Juniors and LQHS IB Diploma Programme Juniors presented their IB Theory of Knowledge Exhibitions together in one ceremony.
This event symbolizes La Quinta High School's commitment to educational equity and proving that all students are capable of academic rigor!
Over 80 LQHS Juniors presented their Exhibitions to parents, staff, and fellow students.
For the first time ever, since combining AVID and IB TOK, LQHS AVID Juniors presented their Theory of Knowledge Exhibitions to staff, family, and fellow students.
45 AVID Scholars showcased their Internal Assessment questions and answered them through the selection of (3) objects that connected their realities with their own knowledge and through a 900-word written commentary.
This event marks a new beginning for LQHS AVID as we continue to open doors and keep them open for our students for years to come.
AVID Scholars enrolled in AVID 11 earn honors/weighted credit for being enrolled in IB TOK and also receive college credit for completing COLL 001: First Year Seminar through College of the Desert.
Course Description: Development of thinking strategies that can be used for lifelong problem solving in academic, social, and personal life. Introduces critical thinking, information literacy, college resources, motivating factors, and study skills for student success. Special emphasis is placed on using materials related to the content area in which the course resides.
Units Possible: 3
Students will complete this course during their second semester of AVID 11, as well as completing their IB TOK Exhibition.
