This an AVID Strategy that is similar to my Lists lesson idea
Encourages creative thought
Verbal skills and communication
Good for reviewing material
Encourages students to consider other perspectives
Bell-ringer activity to review yesterday's material:
What did we discuss yesterday?
What were key takeaways from yesterday?
General Review:
What are keywords from this passage of text?
What's important about the First Amendment?
What is the process/procedure to do ____?
Or maybe even an ice breaker:
Tell me everything you did last weekend
Students divide their paper in half (or use columns in a google doc)
On the left column, students write "Give One," on the right side they write [you guessed it] "Get One"
Students get a predetermined amount of time (30 seconds, or 1-2 minutes) to list everything they know about a topic
Then, they pair up to share one of their responses with a partner
If their partner has the same thing on their paper (the left column) they place a check mark next to it, if it is NOT on their list, they write it into the right column (indicating that this was a NEW idea that they did not think of at first)
Then, they switch roles and repeat the process
Repeat the process with new partners as many times as you'd like
You may consider doing this with groups of 3-4 instead of pairs
This is very similar to my "Lists" lesson if you want a variation on this
This may also work as a variation of Inside/Outside Circles
