Demonstration Lessons - Considerations

  • What are the lesson objectives and expectations?  Standards?

  • How does this lesson connect to the lesson sequence?  What has been taught before?  What will be taught next?

  • What do you want to observe? 

  • What is the time frame?

  • What technology is available? What are students used to?

  • What student variance should be anticipated and planned for?

  • What are the classroom management procedures I need to know about? (Observe the class beforehand if possible)

  • How will you assess student learning of the objective?


Pre-conference meeting with the coach:

  • Confirm date, time, and location

  • Preview an outline of the lesson and key things to look for

  • Clarify the role of the observer during the lesson and after the lesson

  • What information will be recorded or observed by the observer?

  • Will you use a seating chart or name tags?

  • What are your room environment and resource needs?

Co-Planning/Co-Teaching - Considerations

  • What is the learning objective? Standards?

  • How will you assess student learning of the objective?

  • What are the key instructional pieces?  What will be the lesson sequence?

  • How will you engage learners?

  • What strategies are you using to monitor student understanding?

  • What strategies are you using to meet the needs of your student groups? 

  • What routines will you be utilizing?

  • What visuals or materials will you be using?


Co-teaching

  • What role will the coach play?  What is the purpose of the co-teaching lesson?

  • How will the lesson be divided? Who will do what?  When?  How?

  • What method will the team use to transition teachers?

  • What are the norms for any interruption?

  • What will be the common management systems and expectations for behavior?

  • What will the other team member be doing when not teaching?
