TEACH FIRST

Teach First is an educational charity, working to address educational inequality and provide a fair education for all. We do this by getting great teachers into the schools that need them most, developing these teachers to become brilliant leaders, and connecting our schools to a network of support, including our ambassador and supporter networks.

Derby Moor Spencer Academy have worked with Teach First since 2013, taking part in multiple Teach First programmes including the Training Programme and the Careers Leader Programme.

Derby Moor Spencer Academy is one of our most engaged partner schools when it comes to engaging with our corporate partners. Across our partnership, we have arranged activity with businesses including DHL, Vodafone, Rolls Royce and PwC.

DHL UK FOUNDATION

The DHL UK Foundation is a registered charity that supports disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our activities are focused on helping achieve our ambitious new vision – an end to youth unemployment. The GoTeach programme is a global DHL education and employability programme that supports disadvantaged young people to secure employment which is led by the Foundation in the UK.

The programme encourages DHL employees to use their experience to inspire disadvantaged young people about their future careers and help them prepare to enter the workplace. In the UK, the DHL UK Foundation supports GoTeach by developing a variety of meaningful opportunities for colleagues.

Derby Moor Spencer Academy have been engaged in the GoTeach programme since 2018 and have built a strong relationship with DHL over the years. This has included guest lessons, employability skills workshops and support with CV and interview skills. Beyond the GoTeach offer, DHL have supported pupils at Derby Moor with sessions on apprenticeships and mock interviews.

In 2022, 2023 & 2024 the Foundation have invited Derby Moor students to take part in a programme with the Outward Bound Trust. This involves a rigorous selection process where the successful group of students are selected to attend a one week residential at the Outward Bound Trust Centre in Aberdovy, North Wales. In addition, students are supported with a full programme of employability skills preparation.

JCB

Derby Moor has developed a positive relationship with JCB thanks to a link with our alumni Neil Fowkes, HR Manager – Early Careers.  JCB is a British multinational manufacturer of equipment for construction, agriculture, waste handling, and demolition, founded in 1945 and based in Rocester, Staffordshire.

JCB has supported Derby Moor by providing expertise around a range of things in particular apprenticeship pathways. This has included giving presentations to students about the range and levels of apprenticeships on offer as well as and supporting students with the application process. A direct result of this partnership has been the success of Derby Moor students gaining apprenticeships with JCB.
