Objective: The objective of this assignment is to reflect on the insights gained from interviewing an organization or individual about their implementation of equity and justice initiatives. Students will critically analyze the interview experience and its alignment with theoretical concepts discussed in class.
Begin by briefly reviewing your interview notes. Reflect on the significance of understanding how equity and justice initiatives are implemented in real-life scenarios.
For this assignment, you can choose a medium that aligns with your strengths and preferences. You can choose from the following options or propose an alternative with your instructor's approval:
Written Assignment: Create a 500-800 word written piece.
Presentation or Video: Create a presentation or a video (approximately 5 minutes) that visually and/or audibly communicates your reflections on the topic. You can use slides, images, and your voice to convey your thoughts.
Art Project: Create an art project that represents your understanding. This could be a drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, or any other form of visual art.
Other Creative Medium: If you have another creative idea for expressing your thoughts (e.g., a podcast episode, a poem, a song, a short story, a comic strip), feel free to propose it to your instructor.
***Presentation and Explanation: If you choose a medium other than a written or video assignment, include a 250-word explanation (or a 2-minute video/audio explanation) of your project. Explain how your chosen medium represents your thoughts on acknowledging bias and equitable outdoor spaces.
Alignment with Theoretical Concepts: How did the interviewee's equity and justice initiatives align with the theoretical concepts you have learned about so far? Identify specific areas of resonance and demonstrate how their practical efforts reflect the principles and frameworks we explored.
Challenges and Discrepancies: Were there any challenges or discrepancies between the interviewee's implemented initiatives and the theoretical models you learned about? Discuss these instances and explore how addressing these challenges could enhance the effectiveness of their equity and justice efforts.
Personal Learning and Impact: Reflecting on your own learning journey and the insights gained from the interview, how has this experience deepened your understanding of applying theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts? How do these insights influence your perspective on promoting equity and justice in your community or professional sphere?
