In Week 5, you will interview an organization or individual in the outdoor or conservation sector that you believe exemplifies everything you have learned in this course. This week, create a list of 3-5 contacts that you want to interview and begin contacting them. These can be friends, colleagues, family members, or professional connections.
Identify a list of 3-5 contacts that you have a connection with (maybe through LinkedIn, social media, friends, or family). You are more likely to get a response from someone that you share a connection with, like a professional working group, previous workplace, university, etc.
Initiate contact with your top organization or individual to request an interview. Use appropriate communication methods such as email, phone, or direct messaging.
Clearly explain the purpose of the interview and your desire to gain insights into their equity and justice initiatives.
Example:
"My name is [Your Name], and I am currently enrolled in a course aimed at understanding and promoting diversity, equity, and accessibility in outdoor spaces. As I explore various perspectives and initiatives in this field, your work has particularly caught my attention, and I am writing to request an informational interview with you.
I have been following your contributions to equity and justice initiatives closely and am impressed by the meaningful impact you have made in creating inclusive outdoor spaces. Your commitment to fostering diversity and accessibility aligns with the goals of the course I am undertaking, and I believe that gaining insights from your experiences would greatly enhance my understanding.
I am especially interested in understanding your perspective on the challenges and opportunities associated with creating diverse, equitable, and accessible outdoor environments. Would you be open to connecting with me for 30 minutes to share more about your work?
I understand if you are not interested, please let me know by _______ date if you would like to connect with me."
After reviewing the Week 3 self-paced module, reflect on your identity and how it intersects with outdoor spaces. Review the instructions and rubric for the project guidelines.
