Objective: The objective of this assignment is to reflect on becoming a torchbearer and understanding the journey from being an ally to becoming an activist. Students will engage with this theme and express their insights using creative mediums of their choice.
Review the Week 4 materials and activities. Reflect on how individuals can evolve from passive allies to active advocates for justice and equality.
For this assignment, you can choose a medium that aligns with your strengths and preferences. You can choose from the following options or propose an alternative with your instructor's approval:
Written Assignment: Create a 500-800 word written piece.
Presentation or Video: Create a presentation or a video (approximately 5 minutes) that visually and/or audibly communicates your reflections on the topic. You can use slides, images, and your voice to convey your thoughts.
Art Project: Create an art project that represents your understanding. This could be a drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, or any other form of visual art.
Other Creative Medium: If you have another creative idea for expressing your thoughts (e.g., a podcast episode, a poem, a song, a short story, a comic strip), feel free to propose it to your instructor.
***Presentation and Explanation: If you choose a medium other than a written or video assignment, include a 250-word explanation (or a 2-minute video/audio explanation) of your project. Explain how your chosen medium represents your thoughts on acknowledging bias and equitable outdoor spaces.
Personal Reflection: Reflect on your own journey to become a torchbearer and advocate for change. How have your perspectives, actions, and level of involvement evolved over time? Share specific experiences or realizations that contributed to your growth.
Identify a Leader: Choose a leader or activist whose work embodies the principles you aspire to. This could be a historical figure, a contemporary community leader, a social media influence, friends or family, or even a fellow student. How can you apply these traits and principles to your job or personal life?
Redefine Leadership: Analyze your current understanding of leadership in relation to skills and values discussed in the Week 4 live session. What aspects of your leadership style currently overlap with the traits of a torchbearer? Where are some gaps you can improve?
