Expect the unexpected. Your child might cry, cling to you, or be extra excited to start this new adventure. All are normal feelings and behaviours that children exhibit on the first day of school. Be prepared for any of these reactions. Give your child a big hug and assure them they are going to have a fun day and that you will be back in the afternoon to pick them up.
Walk your child to the Kindergarten gate where you will see all the Kindergarten teachers waiting to greet you and your child.
2. You will be asked your child's name and to share who will be picking your child up at the end of their first day.
3. Student's will enter the fenced area.
**Parents, siblings and caregivers need to remain on the outside of the fence for safety purposes.
4. Children will have some time to walk around the Kindergarten yard while they wait for more new friends to arrive. Parents are welcome to remain outside the fence.
5. Once everyone has arrived we will line up at the wall and enter our classroom for the first time with our second year Kindergarten friends.
6. Your child will have a great day of fun meeting new friends.
7. When you come to pick up your child - please be patient (we need to ensure that every child gets home with the right people). Please do not ask your child to leave the fenced area until a teacher has dismissed them to leave.
****From experience - if your child appears very anxious and is upset and crying, even though as a parent it is extremely hard to leave, it is often best for your child if you leave. Once familiar family members are out of sight, children will often venture out and meet new people. Often crying will stop within a few minutes after families leave. If your child is in distress throughout the day, we will be sure to contact you to let you know.
