Drop Off & Pick Up Information

• Supervision begins in the Kindergarten yard at 8:50 a.m. Please do not leave your child in this area until school supervisors (orange vests) are on duty. Entry is at 9:05 a.m.

• Pick up - school ends at 3:35.  We make every effort to have students ready for dismissal by 3:25 to help avoid congestion with the buses and older students attending the school.  Please call the school if you are going to be late picking up your child.

• You will be asked to fill out a pick up information form at the beginning of the school year.  Your child will only be released to the people you indicate on the form.

KINDERGARTEN ENTRANCE

As students arrive at school, they may wait and play in the kindergarten yard which is the fenced area facing Scott Street. Please use the Scott Street gate when dropping off children. When the bell rings, the children line up and enter when their teacher meets them at the door. Parents are asked not to enter the kindergarten yard or classrooms as we need to develop independence early in the school year. After the 9:05 am bell, students arriving late must report directly to the office to sign in.

PLEASE NOTE: Children cannot arrive more than 15 minutes before the bell since there will be no school staff supervision at that time. Please do not allow younger siblings to play in the yard.

SUMMARY OF PARKING PROCEDURES

All traffic signs around our school are “No Stopping” signs; meaning exactly that … There is to be NO Stopping in these zones, not even to drop off children.

The best way to reduce vehicle congestion is to walk with your child to school, but we all know this is not an option for some of our students. If it is absolutely necessary to transport your child by car, use one of the permissive parking spaces available in the area.

It is expected that ALL drivers will follow Traffic By-Law 1862-5 when dropping off or picking up students or visiting Dr. Robert Thornton Public School.

This By-Law permits parking in the following areas:

- Hazelwood Drive, west side (sidewalk side) from Manning Road all the way south toward the school, up to the furthest driveway entering the north parking lot. This will allow parking on the south side of Hazelwood Drive, directly in front of the school.

- Scott Street, from Manning Road to the No Stopping signage a few houses north of the school and a few houses south of the school to Dundas Street. This means that at no time can there be any stopping on either side of Scott Street in front of the school.

The permitted parking areas outlined above are not only expectations, but By-Laws to be followed by all drivers. These By-Laws are enforced and tickets will be issued.

At no time are students to be dropped off or picked up from the Scott Street Parking Lot as this is a bus zone.
