The relationship between mentor and new teacher is one of trust and confidence. It is important to establish this trust early in the relationship, so that the new teacher is able to engage in open and honest dialogue about their successes and challenges in the classroom; without concern that this may impact their performance appraisal. An important reminder: Mentoring is non-evaluative!
Additional information on how to support mentees can be found in the 2021 NTIP e-book for Mentors.
