Greetings from NTIP!
For beginning teachers, the first few years of teaching can often be challenging as they work to build confidence in their teaching abilities, learn to address issues that arise in the classroom, and adjust to a new school as well as to teaching the curriculum. Designed to support ‘new’ teachers, NTIP is built on the belief that as new teachers begin their careers, proficiency comes with practice. As educators adjust their practices this Fall, NTIP continues to evolve to meet the needs of beginning teachers. The 2021/2022 NTIP team is excited to usher in a new year of learning for the newest teachers within the DDSB. Your NTIP team includes:
Linda Ford-DeCunha - System Lead for NTIP
Tanya Salmon - NTIP Facilitator
Emilie McAlister - NTIP Administration
New Teacher Induction Elements at a Glance
NTIP consists of the following induction elements:
• Orientation for all new teachers to the school and school board;
· Mentoring of new teachers by experienced teachers;
· Professional learning relevant to the individual needs of new teachers.
At the centre of the induction elements is the NTIP learner. However, in addition to new teachers falling under this category, NTIP learners include associate teachers, mentors, principals, board staff and many other colleagues. NTIP is meaningful when it is constructed by each learner based on their real world learning needs.
In addition, all new teachers with permanent contracts must have two teacher performance appraisals conducted by principals in the first twelve months.
