Join for a LIVE session with Dr. Alfred Tatum!
The author of “Teaching Black Boys in the Elementary Grades: Advanced
Disciplinary Reading and Writing to Secure Their Futures"
Thursday, October 20, 2022
4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Tatum’s work provides educators with a strong framework for instructional and curriculum-based practices designed to advance the literacy development of adolescents; especially young, Black boys. His latest text, “Teaching Black Boys in the Elementary Grades: Advanced Disciplinary Reading and Writing to Secure Their Futures” includes ideas for selecting texts, reading supports, prompts for analysis and examples of student work; practical ideas that are useful for educators working in both the Elementary and Secondary panels. In his time with us, Dr. Tatum’s will help educators to rethink their expectations of, and practices for, developing Black boys’ literacy skills and adopting a growth model of literacy development. All educators are invited to join us at this professional learning session as it will take participants on a journey into a space where we can continue to deepen our conversations about literacy equity for young Black boys.
All participants will receive a copy of Dr. Tatum’s book: “Teaching Black Boys in the Elementary Grades: Advanced Disciplinary Reading and Writing to Secure Their Futures”
