Modern Studies is the study of contemporary social, economic and political issues in the UK and other countries. Our aim is to enable pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of the important issues the world faces today. We use a wide range of activities to encourage our pupils to take responsibility for their own learning, provide them with the essential skills they will need to succeed in the world beyond school and enable them to better develop their understanding of the seven key concepts underpinning our subject:
Staff
Mr S Baikie (PT)
All pupils in S1-3 have been added to the Team and should have got a GLOW email with a link to click to access Microsoft Teams.
To access Teams either:
Log into GLOW email and click tab with nine dots in the top corner of the screen and select 'Teams' then sign in using your GLOW credentials
or
Can get a dedicated desktop app then sign in using GLOW credentials.
or
Download the Microsoft Teams app onto a tablet or mobile phone from the App Store or Google Play or Microsoft Windows Apps Store depending on type of mobile device or tablet. Again, once app is downloaded you will need to sign in using your GLOW credentials.
To use Teams:
In the 'Files' section of each Team are folders for each year group (S1, S2 and S3). Each folder contains two main units of work for the pupils to read or download and work on. there is a booklet, homework and usually a PPT.
There is a folder titled 'Pupil Work' for each year group where pupils can upload their work for marking. This can either be as a typed word document or a photograph of their work. Put name on both please!
In the 'Conversations' section of each Team there pupils can upload a photo of their work which the relevant teacher can then mark also or they can politely ask questions about the Team or the work.
Each week (probably Monday) we will set a target for work for that week: 1 lesson per week for S1-2 and 2 lessons per week for S3. Every so often I will also either set a homework task (in files section) or a relevant Microsoft Form quiz which can be done online and submitted electronically. This will be uploaded to the 'Conversations' section.
Pupil Work
Work will normally be sent out directly to pupils using the 'Assignments' tab on Teams. Instructions will be included in the assignment and any materials required will be attached. These will normally open directly on teams but sometimes may need to be downloaded. A time for the work to be returned will be set on the Assignment. Work can then be uploaded on the Assignment.
Any pupil work (must be typed) can either be saved in the Files section (use the Upload tab) or failing that, simply be emailed to me on: ddsbaikie820@glow.sch.uk
Pupils should mostly be aware of how to do these steps and how to use Teams.
National 4/5 pupils also have:
A paper copy of revision notes for all topics studied,
A paper copy of a revision checklist,
A booklet of practice Skills questions,
A booklet on how to answer KU questions.
Higher pupils also have:
A paper copy of revision notes for all topics studied,
A paper copy of a revision checklist,
Two booklets on how to answer 12 and 20 mark essay questions,
Notes on how to answer Skills questions in their Skills/Homework jotter.
A folder of advice from the Higher Modern Studies Conference.
