The Learning Resource Centre is there for pupils and staff to access a wide variety of resources including over 6000 books, DVDs and articles: to read, to research, to engage in private study, to explore topics for projects and subjects on the curriculum, to use the 20 computers to research online and prepare reports/essays.
The Learning Resource Centre is a bright welcoming space which is open for pupils and staff from 8.00am until 4.00pm and is available outside class time for research, typing up essays or simply to relax and read for pleasure.
The Learning Resource Centre supports the learning and teaching of the school in everything it does and the Librarian is on hand to provide support in finding information and resources, choosing fiction to enjoy and anything else she can help with.
Look forward to seeing you all
Mrs Duley, Librarian
Borrowing Books
All pupils automatically become members of the LRC when they join Baldragon. Every pupil can borrow one book at a time which will be issued for two weeks and the book remains your responsibility until it is returned even if you leave it in your english classroom!
You are more than welcome to keep the book for longer than two weeks, just let us know, Then we know you won't have fogotten about it :)
Interval and Lunchtimes
The Learning Resource Centre is open every interval lunchtime which gives all pupils access to computers and resources. They may even be allowed to play the odd computer game or two!
There seems to be so much information out there that it can sometimes feel overwhelming to know what to believe and what you need.
On here you will find updated links to information you might find helpful when doing research, links to some fantastic e-reading sources, book reviews and other stuff as it comes up.
Reading for pleasure
Dundee Public Libraries have a great ereading section on offer with new books being added all the time.
So, you can choose to listen or read these on your chosen device.
All the links to the Dundee libraries ereading are available at the link below but also direct access using the images under this section.
http://www.leisureandculturedundee.com/library/e-reading
You need to be a library member to access it but don't worry, if you aren't already a member there is a sign in section on that link above and you can get signed up in 5 minutes and then you will be able to access audiobooks and ebooks, magazines, e-comics and graphic novels.
Book Reviews
There are lots of great sites out there where you can find out about fantastic books. We might be biased but we think our brand new K homegrown site coming from our very own Dundee School Librarians is pretty great! It has some great suggestions of books to keep you occupied!

Here are some others....
just a few of many good places to find out about books you may want to read.
Highly recommend the BBC and Scottish Book Trust Authors live! Over 35 authors to "meet" and listen to how their books and characters came about. You may not recognise the author names but you will have definitely heard of some of their books.
Anthony Horowitz (Alex rider series), Malorie Blackman (noughts and crosses etc), Patrick Ness ( A Monster calls), David Almond, Liz Pichon (tom gates series like wimpy kid) Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl). There is poetry on there, Steve Backshall is on there (adventurer and author)
Oh, and Pamela Butchart is on there, a teacher from Dundee who has started writing secret seven books....

Finding information
Finding useful information can be an absolute minefield at the moment and its often really hard to know what information is the best to use.
Information online
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-51967889
A really helpful article about how to identify and avoid fake news, but also how sometimes personal and emotive responses to a subject can go viral and often change our perception of the facts. This is something often mentioned at school when you are being asked to evaluate the sources you use and say why.
https://www.issuesonline.co.uk/
A really useful site with lots of different topics that can be really helpful to look at when writing persuasive essays. From anything to medical ethics, should footballers be paid more and loads of other topics. We have physical copies of these books in the school library but we also had a subscription to the online version. Email Mrs Duley, the Librarian, for the username and password to access these resources.
Research Skills
There is more than you think that goes into doing research online, especially when it is for work being submitted for coursework or exams. Its' so important to evaluate the sources you are using and make sure you say where you got your information from. Below is a link to a handy resource put together by Mrs Duley, the Librarian, that goes through this process. Really useful information for our senior pupils to know and those going onto Higher Education. It includes tips of how to NOT lose essential marks for essays!
