The legal status of the D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy was established as a lab school by the General Assembly in N.C.G.S. 116, Article 29A (sections 116-239.5 et seq.) and by approval of the UNC System. Throughout these policies, the D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy will hereinafter referred to as “DCVPA”. DCVPA is a school operated by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Throughout these policies, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will be referred to as “UNCW”. Throughout these policies, UNCW’s Chancellor will be referred to as “Chancellor”. Throughout these policies, UNCW’s Dean of the Watson College of Education will be referred to as “Dean”.

Pursuant to statute, the Chancellor is the administrative head of DCVPA and shall provide general direction for the establishment and operation of a laboratory school. The Chancellor may designate others to perform duties.

An Advisory Board shall be established to provide the Chancellor and his or her designee(s) with advice and input as outlined in the statute.
