Any digital platform that is used for learning ought to be considered an extension of the physical classroom and school. As stated in the section titled “Student Use of District Information Technology” in the Douglas County School District’s Code of Conduct (2018), technology should be used as a tool to educate and inform young minds (para. 1), not to distract and hinder their development. Furthermore, DCSD’s Responsible User Policy (2018) states, “No less than when in class, in the lunchroom, or at school-sponsored events, students are responsible for good behavior when using District IT to travel through cyberspace” (para. 1). The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology (2017) asserts that

Americans need pathways to acquire expertise and form meaningful connections to peers and mentors. This journey begins with a base of knowledge and abilities that can be augmented and enhanced throughout our lives...Technology can be a powerful tool to reimagine learning experiences on the basis of those insights (para. 1).

It is more important than ever to encourage our future leaders, citizens and workforce the most productive and innovative ways to use technology! Below is a guideline to ensure that all members of a learning community use technology in a way that is safe, respectful, and innovative.
