Sept 5: Thank you to Matt and Christie Gallen for repairing all of the band's shade tents ahead of DCMI! They look and work great thanks to you! A big thank you to Christie for also working with local restaurants to secure donated meals for our judges at DCMI! Thank you also to Lucas Peterson for creating a rolling stand for the base drums for pit percussionists!
Sept 9: There are so many people to shout out for the incredible show today! Each performance takes a village and we had a fantastic village today! The students also looked and sounded AMAZING! All of that hard work and practice is really showing! Shouts out to: Denver Limousine ETC for donating 2 party buses and drivers to get our students to and from the competition, Clayton Kimball for pulling the pit equipment trailer, Jeremy Snook for driving the Uhaul trailer with our props, Hali Sheppard and Nikki Barnett (and I'm sure some people I did not see) for serving food to our students at DC Showcase, Hillary Allen for volunteering in the concessions at DC Showcase, and all of our DC Showcase Prop Stars: Elizabeth and Kevin Vant Zet, Kevin Cox, Hillary Allen, Clayton Kimball, Michael and Nikki Barnett, Preston Nein, Jeremy Snook, Hali Shepard, and our 2026 baritone sax alum Christian Holland and 2025 tuba alum, Weslee Hales.
Sept 12: The Harrison Clinic and Show was a huge success thanks to the efforts of so many of our enthusiastic and supportive parents. From hauling trailers, driving Uhauls, providing meals and snacks, delivering spirit wear tshirts, chaperoning, pushing equipment and props, and caring for our students uniforms, there are so many things that go into making a show like this one run so smoothly. Shout out to these rock star parents: Jennifer Smith, Shannon Andrus, Carrie and Kevin Cox, Nikki Barnett, Clayton Kimball, Jarod and Stephanie Holdren, Jeremy and Beth Snook, Christie Gallen, Amy Sloan, Hali Sheppard, Lucas and Krista Peterson, and Elizabeth and Kevin Vant Zet. And a huge thank you to every parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, and cousin that sat in the stands and cheered so loudly for us. This band is truly loved!
Sept 16: Thank you to all of the parents helping create the maps, schedules, and programs behind the scenes that will make DCMI work well: Shout out to Alumni Parent extraordinaire, Mike Zukowski, for creating the parking map for the large trucks and trailers we need to fit on our campus, to Krista Peterson for putting together the digital program, to Andi Walker for maintaining the ever-changing demands of the volunteer sign-ups and sharing them with DC student organizations and staff, and to Carrie Cox for publishing a call to volunteer everywhere she can think of. I could not do this without you all!
HOT OFF THE PRESS
DC Showcase is always an exciting milestone because it marks the unofficial start of competition season!
Each year, marching bands from across Douglas County come together for their first competition-style performances of the season. While there are no scores or rankings, students get the chance to put their shows on the field in front of an audience and experience the energy of performing alongside other bands before the competitive season officially begins.
More importantly, DC Showcase is about community. It’s an opportunity for students to cheer one another on, see what their fellow musicians have been working on, and build camaraderie among the marching bands throughout our county.
It’s also the perfect chance to shake out those early-season jitters! With our first competition coming up on Saturday, DC Showcase gave our students an opportunity to perform, learn, build confidence, and get excited for everything ahead.
Competition season is officially here! We're so excited to see where the season takes us!
DCHS vs. DAKOTA RIDGE
August 28, 2026
The DCHS Marching Band hit the field for their first performance of the year at our first home football game vs Dakota Ridge! The kids had a blast, we learned a lot, and we got our first taste of what this season has in store.
This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see how far this group goes! Go Huskies!
BACK TO SCHOOL BASH
August 21, 2026
Our Back to School Bash was a great way to kick off the year! The marching band and color guard welcomed students and families with a high-energy performance that had parents and teachers commenting on how much fun they were having and what a great year it looks like we have ahead of us.
We also got to meet some future band and guard members at our booth, where elementary and middle school students tried their hand at spinning a guard flag and playing a snare drum. Best of all, several eighth graders stopped by and told us they’re interested in joining next year. We’d call that a pretty successful night!
We are thrilled to welcome our newest staff member, Matthew Morton!
Matthew is an alumni of DCHS and is excited to return as a teacher!
He marched at the Academy Drum & Bugle Corps and the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. He has also been a part of some indoor percussion ensembles.
Our band, and our percussion section in particular, is so lucky to have Matthew on board!
July 25, 2026
The DCHS Huskie Pride Marching Band made their 2026 debut today at the Douglas County Fair Parade in downtown Castle Rock. You can tell they have been working hard all week at band camp! They looked and sounded so good! We're so excited for the season ahead!
