Meaning-Based Reading Skills

"To become readers, students must develop both the skills and knowledge to read the words...('code-based skills') and to understand complex texts ('meaning-based skills')." (Lessaux & Gallaway). This workshop focuses on the meaning-based skills instruction with authentic texts that are rich in concepts and vocabulary.

Lesaux & Harris, 2015

"In today's linguistically diverse elementary classrooms, research suggests that a universal approach to building academic vocabulary and conceptual knowledge holds huge promise for closing the opportunity gaps experienced by too many English learners." This book presents a knowledge-based approach to instruction.
