New York State Learning Standards Revised
In September New York’s Board of Regents adopted Next Generation Learning Standards for English Language Arts (ELA). Much of what was in the Common Core Standards remains after a collaborative revision process.
ELA Standards now include a Glossary of Terms and a list of Lifelong Literacy Practices. A special Early Learning Task Force provided specific, research-based guidance about the need for play-based learning and grade-level appropriateness of expectations.
Guidance for how to support students with a disability and English Language/Multilingual learners was added. This and other important information is included in Introductions to the Standards, attached below.
