OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care
Entry Requirements:
Five Grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent
Not a requirement that you have studied H&SC at KS4 however if you have you must have achieved at least Level 2.

2 A Level Equivalent
What does this qualification cover and how will I be assessed?
Over two years you will study 12 or 13 units made up of mandatory and optional units:
Internally assessed= Your teacher will assess this and the exam board will moderate it
Externally assessed = The exam board set and mark this
You will study the following mandatory units:
Building positive relationships in health and social care (I)
Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care (E)
Health, safety and security in health and social care (E)
Anatomy and physiology for health and social care (E)
Infection Control (I)
Personalisation and a person-centered approach to care (E)
Safeguarding (E)
A further five or six units (depending on GLH) which will all be internally assessed
All internal assessments will be graded Pass, Merit, Distinction
All external assessment will be grade Near Pass, Pass, Merit and distinction
Students who perform exceptionally across all assessments in the course are eligible to achieve a Distinction* grade as their overall grade.
You must achieve at least a near pass in all external and at least a Pass in all internal assessment units to be awarded the qualification.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is ideally suited to young men and women who have an interest in working in a caring profession.
q Students who already have or are willing to develop a keen interest in issues related to health, social care and early years
q Students who enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives and experience
q Students who want to study a course that is active and enjoyable
q Students who want to keep their options open and broaden their studies in a practical way
q Students who possess qualities such as, willingness to develop an interest in issues related to health,social and early years, motivation, and being able to work well on your own and in groups
q Students who are hardworking and well organised
q Students who are willing to apply what they have learnt in a practical way, for example
seeking opportunities to ask ‘real’ professionals and practitioners questions surrounding their working life.
What can I expect from the course?
This qualification is not about teaching you how to care for babies or the elderly and ill, however what it will provide you is the skills, knowledge and understanding enabling you to progress onto higher education or an apprenticeship in the health or social care sector. You will apply your skills, knowledge and understanding to tasks or activities that are relevant to what happens in health, social care and child care workplaces and learn how to be proactive in promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting individuals in the sector. Having an appreciation of what happens in the workplace will also prepare you for continuing your education.
There is no mandatory work placement however vocational experience will be encouraged and guest speakers will be welcomed to enhance the learning experience.
