BE DCHS 6th!
There is so much more than just academic study at DCHS 6th Form!
As well as pushing you hard to be the best you can be academically we are also determined to get you involved in as many different educational experiences and community events as we can. We firmly believe the more you do the more you grow as a person.
So with that in mind here are a few of the exciting events to look forward to during a DCHS 6th Form year...
Tread the Boards at Alnwick Playhouse- Whether you fancy being on stage under lights or behind the curtain as a 'techie' or set designer there are two shows a year to get yourself involved in. These very popular productions are significant events in our local community and runs are often sold out!
See the World- Lots of subjects do trips. Some of the highlights recently have been Geography trips to Iceland, Cultural exchange visits to China and closer to home visits to Stratford, London & local theatre trips to Newcastle & Edinburgh.
Attend 'The Holly Ball' & Leavers Celebration- The annual Holly Ball takes place every year and is a chance for the current 6th form to get together and let their hair down at the half way point in the year. The Leavers Event is a final formal celebration in the summer after exams that takes place at The Alnwick Garden for the outgoing Year 13.
Yr 12 Work Experience & Volunteering- Students have the opportunity to organise their own work experience and volunteering with help from the 6th form team to help enhance their CVs or university application. This takes place for a week in the summer of Yr 12.
Sports Teams & Competitions- A 'sporty' area requires a 'sporty' school! We have a variety of teams across a number of sports competing nationally and internationally and some very famous Alumni like the Best FIFA Women's Player of the Year (2020) Lucy Bronze!
Helping out in the Community- We want to contribute to our community so regularly DCHS 6th will get involved in the local community. We provide opportunities like writing Christmas messages to local care homes, raising money for local charities through themed days like Halloween Fancy Dress, Christmas Jumper Day, performing in local events or our annual Christmas Carol concert or supporting local villages and communities we value what our pupils can do to act as role models for our community and we expect our students to contribute to the places where we live!
