Explaining the BYOD Scheme in 6th Form
The school has introduced an extra privilege for 6th form called 'Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). As a school we are 'technology friendly' and have encouraged students further down the school to subscribe to the school Chromebook scheme. Recognising that as students get older and higher education appears on the horizon some students wish to purchase different types of technology to help them with their studies.
Students are therefore allowed to ‘Bring Your Own Device’ into school and will be able to connect to the School network to support learning and enable research. This is a privilege restricted to Sixth Form only at this point in time and will be under constant review and scrutiny. As we prepare for next steps and the way universities and apprenticeships and employers work we are keen for students to have their own laptops/devices in school to use as part of their studies.
As a school we strongly recommend that students have a laptop to use in school to support their studies.
How it Works
Students will be allowed to use only one device and this will not include mobile phones, the School Policy on Mobiles remains unchanged. For clarity mobile phones are not allowed to be used anywhere in school except in the designated 6th form areas. It is important as a role model in school that 6th formers set an example to the other years when they are visible around school.
Device types supported on the School network are:
Macbook Pro/Air
iPad
Android Tablet
Chromebook
Windows Laptop/Netbook
In School Guidance
Students should ensure that the device is fully up-to-date before using it on the School network as updates will not be able to be installed in school hours. The device should be fully charged ready for the school day. No equipment (computer or otherwise) is to be unplugged to allow devices to be charged. Cleaners sockets are not to be used for device charging.
Device usage on the School network is monitored and any infringement of the Acceptable User Policy, or any attempt to circumnavigate the School monitoring or filtering systems will result in immediate ban and removal of the device from the School network.
The School is not able to offer IT support for personal devices in either a hardware or software capacity and is not in a position to provide any School related software for installation and use.
The School accepts no liability for personal devices and therefore any device bought into school is done so entirely at your own risk.
