For our icebreaker, we set up karaoke and had a great time. For this session of Connect, we looked at 'relationships' and students shared their ideas on why they think relationships can be so challenging.
For the entire term, we ran Alpha with students to train them as small-group leaders. Each Monday afternoon some students would complete Alpha as students and others as leaders. It allowed the students time to develop their confidence in explaining games and icebreakers, as well as, skills to engage students in the Alpha program. Holy Spirit Week is the pinnacle of the program where an extended Alpha session occurs and one of our leaders also happened to be celebrating their birthday.
After all their training in running Alpha, the students spoke at a Year 7 year group assembly to encourage students to join Alpha for Term 2. The Year 9 leaders were nervous but did a great job talking to a whole year group!

Thank you to Dylan, Bridie and Jemma for your time and effort to make the Ryan Centre more welcoming!
To celebrate Pentecost, we hosted a party during a lunch break where students got to learn about what happened at Pentecost, played games, ate yummy food and received 'the fruits' of the Holy Spirit.
Hosted by St Peter's Catholic College, Tuggerah. Fr Rob Galea was the keynote speaker for the day! Students attended a range of workshops, listened to speakers and received a blessing and holy water from Bishop Anthony.
Home Based Learning and Lockdown was back and we wanted to ensure that students still maintained connections. We ran YMCC lunch meetings, Alpha and Spark Sessions online. Most of the time we stuck to the program and other times we just wanted to chat and hangout.
Sometimes we had special guests. Special mention goes to Charlie (from Canada), Danny DeVito and Lili the Cane Corso.
This is the pinnacle of the Alpha program and since we were all in lockdown, we had to get creative with how we could celebrate. Each participant received their own package in the mail and were not allowed to open it till we were together online. It contained a range of items like sweet treats, 'fruits of the Holy Spirit' and symbolic items. It was a lot of fun to open it and go through the contents together before commencing our session.
As we slowly made our transition back to school, we kept going with our online lunch meetings so everyone could still join!
Some of the topics we covered included: addictive distractions, comparison culture on social media and effects of the pandemic. Towards the end of the term students received a souvenir photo of some of our sessions.
