YMCC stands for Youth Ministry MacKillop Catholic College.
Being involved in YMCC can provide students with the opportunity to:
✝️ Explore the core values of MCC and grow in faith.
💖 Establish a firm foundation of the self.
🙏 Experience the benefits of discipleship, mission and service to others.
✋ Develop a range of skills and learn the importance of servant leadership.
👥 Meet new people, make new friends and be a part of something that makes a difference!
YMCC welcomes all students and provides various opportunities for participation through different groups and initiatives each term. The focus of YMCC is to provide a safe and welcoming environment to support students on their faith journey. Being part of YMCC encourages students to deepen their faith, meet and connect with new people and have some fun.
There are many ways in which students can participate in YMCC and all participation is purely voluntary. YMCC offers meetings, faith formation programs, social gatherings, supports diocesan events like Praisefest and a range of other youth ministry events over the course of the year. In 2022 a new evangelisation group was formed called 'Connecting Catholic Coasties' (aka CCC) and each term, students are invited to attend a CCC event.
YMCC students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and the youth ministry leadership team is called 'Pharus' (more information below). All YMCC students have the opportunity to be leaders and can develop their confidence and skills, an example would be through YMCC Jnrs. Each year, students from Years 9-11 also have the opportunity to attend an annual YMCC Leadership Camp.
Our youth ministry students continue to: assist with College events, serve the local and broader community, participate in a range of activities during and after school, attend local events like the Ignite Youth Conference, travel interstate for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF), and attend pilgrimages overseas for World Youth Day (WYD). All students are invited to explore and deepen their own faith in a safe and welcoming environment.
*The teachings of Jesus are at the centre of our lives so the cross is at the centre of the logo.
*The letters 'YOU' in youth are in bold because 'you' are being invited to participate.
*The six stars at the top of the cross symbolise that Christ is our light, as well as the six House groups at MCC.
The term 'Pharus' is Latin for a beacon of light, and as such, the students in the YMCC Leadership Team are role models or 'beacons of light' to other students.
The Pharus Leadership Team is elected at the end of Term 2 and students begin their leadership roles at the beginning of Term 3. The Pharus group comprises of six students from Years 9-11 and students can elect themselves or accept a nomination from another student to apply. The election process includes an application form and a speech in front of other YMCC students and a panel of teachers.
Once the six team members are elected, they are commissioned at the beginning of Term 3 and commence their work with staff and students for 12 months of Servant Leadership. Pharus students meet fortnightly with Mrs Tenev and Sr Jiji to participate in faith formation activities, develop their leadership and organisational skills, and assist with the planning of events and other initiatives.
We thank Dominic for his contribution to the inaugural Pharus Leadership Team and wish him well for the future.
We would like to welcome Noah to the Pharus Leadership Team for the first semester of 2023!
Using the model of ‘Anointed and Sent’, YMCC aims to use the eight areas as a framework to ensure that students engage in a range of experiential learning and growth in their faith. The areas have also been linked to each House and Gospel Value. The YMCC Leadership Team, together with Mrs Tenev and Sr Jiji, ensure that students have opportunities to participate in each area.
