In collaboration with International Student Programs and The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, the Matthews Center provided comprehensive support to international students in their career development and academic pursuits. Through partnerships with International Student Programs, students received valuable resources, preparation, and specific guidance for their career, internship, and post-graduation plans.
Additionally, the Matthews Center offered a diverse range of programs aimed at empowering international students to make the most of their experiences and skill sets. These programs focused on helping students leverage their strengths, build professional networks, and secure employment opportunities.
A total of 169 students were awarded grants, enabling them to pursue internships, networking opportunities, experiential learning experiences, graduate school visits, professional conferences, and upskilling.
"I clearly remember the time I decided to apply for the position of Student Ambassador in the Matthews Career Center. Approaching the end of my sophomore year, I was applying to internships only to get rejected from every single one. A friend who worked at the Matthews Center gave me some tips for improvement and I found his advice very helpful. I thought it would be nice if I could do the same for others, especially international students.
Over my time at the Matthews Center, I learned how to communicate effectively. Regardless of the occasion, networking sessions, class presentations or even a simple chat, I wanted to be a person to talk to and a useful resource for students with similar struggles as mine. Through a lot of interactions with Career Center advisors and other students, I became more confident and improved skills that would be useful in job searching.
Beginning this September, I will be working at Bain & Co. as an Associate Consultant in the Atlanta, GA office. I don’t think the person who applied and was rejected by more than 50 positions two years ago could have imagined this outcome. I am very grateful for all the support and guidance I received from the Matthews Center and I hope I was of some help to other students," said Tasos Pagounas '23.
