Awarded annually to the outstanding undergraduate canoeist/kayaker.
Jackson has dedicated his career to developing his skills as a boater and teaching others. He is the obvious recipient of this award.
The purpose of this award is to foster and perpetuate the spirit of students like Tom Ruhle who built his own boat, then trained, raced, and paddled on the streams of New England. Tom’s life was cut short tragically when he was killed in an auto accident on Route 91, just after having visited the Club while on his way home from a summer job as a canoe counselor before beginning his sophomore year at Dartmouth. Jake has been very involved and we look forward to seeing where his Dartmouth Career takes him.
The Jay Evans ’49 Award shall be given annually to an undergraduate in honor of Jay Evans ’49, a long-time advisor who, over the years, has provided significant devotion, teaching, service, and dedication to Ledyard as a pioneer kayaker, coach, club historian, and advisor.
Katie's devotion to Ledyard was absolute. She was tireless in her service, enthusiastic, fervent and passionate. She inspired other leaders, brought positive changes to club culture and advanced the cause of women in the organization.
Awarded annually to the member of Ledyard Canoe Club who demonstrates extraordinary commitment to both academic and whitewater endeavors and encourages new members to share in the joy of adventure.
Yefri has delighted in being a pillar in the Ledyard community as well as being a bridge to the rest of the DOC, in his role as VP and in organizing events, and trips to build connections. His spirit is enormously positive and he is well regarded throughout the organization.
Given to the person who has made the most marked contribution in increasing overall female involvement in the club.
Tyler has worked hard to bring beginners of all stripes into the club and led countless trips for people with no experience and helped them find the joy of being on the water. She is always enthusiastic and friendly and easy to approach. Her energy helps welcome first years, especially women, who otherwise might be intimidated and she is invaluable to the aims and objectives of the organization.
The Kem Tyler Award is awarded annually to younger members of the Winter Sports Club who show promise, in order to further their leadership and technical training.
Abby and Emery are up and coming leaders within the club and have both shown great dedication to bringing people into the sport. They are heavily involved in the DOC, and having recently taken on the mantle of co-chairs, we are excited to see where they take the club in the future.
For exemplary member of the Timber Team.
Christian has carried the team this year with his leadership. After spending most of his junior year away he stepped into a substantial leadership gap and stepped up big time. The future of the team owes a lot to his work.
