The Charles A. Collis '37 Award recognizes a student who has taken the mission of the Collis Center to heart and fulfills the vision that Charlie Collis had years ago when founding the Center. This student cares so deeply for their fellow students and for the many staff who are incredibly lucky to work with them. With genuine kindness, sincerity, and humor, this student has proven to be a welcoming and caring voice for all students. They have exhibited deep commitment to making Collis (and Dartmouth) a welcoming and wonderful place to be. Whether as a Family Weekend Chair, founding SOAP Board Member, Orientation Team Member or as the Student Life intern over multiple terms, it is with deep gratitude and appreciation that we present the Charles A. Collis award to Lauren.
An ever-present face in Collis since her first year, Sam has been a detail-oriented leader in SPEC and Collis After Dark, in particular working to support and program with Heritage and History Months. Sam is always willing to step up to help where she is needed across Student Life.
As a quiet but committed leader, Juan has contributed to Dartmouth as a photographer and the editor for the Aegis, a Winter Carnival chair, a member of Collis Tech Crew, and has also served as a Trip Leader and leader in Hokupa’a. We’ll miss Juan’s smiling face in Collis!
For his commitment over the last four years to the Dartmouth Community as a member of the Undergraduate Finance Committee, as EPAC Chair, and Student Assembly President. Luke's care and concern for the well-being of his peers is unwavering.
Jenna Gibbons (Planning, Design & Construction) has been a critical partner in our recent renovations and updates to both Robinson Hall and the Collis Center. She helped take staff and student visions for these spaces and turn them into a reality.
Tom Lund, of the third shift custodial staff, has been a consistent supporter of the Collis Center. The work of cleaning Collis, Robinson, and 53 Commons is endless and physically demanding, while the hours make it almost impossible for face-to-face interaction. He always makes sure to keep staff informed of any issues that arise, when most of us are home and sleeping. Tom went the extra mile during the Covid-19 outbreak by checking in on our wellbeing while working from home. Tom, thank you for your dedicated service.
Leadership is not always a major action, sometimes it comes in the form of hard work, consistency, and even quiet moments - like volunteering to set up events for the Collis Governing Board, years of hard work on the Orientation Team and Winter Carnival, or even just making banners to ensure the work of fellow students is recognized. For all of her support for the COllis programs that help shape the Dartmouth student experience, we are proud to present Darien Jones with the Unsung Hero Award.
The Liz Agosto Manager of the Year Award is a token of appreciation to our managers for their incredible and detailed work keeping the Collis Center a functional resource for the Dartmouth community. As we know, the Collis Center would not be able to run efficiently if it wasn’t for our incredible student workers. This year we are able to highlight a student that has strived to always be successful since their first day on the job. Their love for the center and passion for the job has been nothing short of incredible. Being able to see her grow and develop has been an honor and it gives us so much joy to present this year's award to Laurel Semprebon.
Christy has been a Collis tech for the past two years. She came to us from Oberlin where she received her B.A. in Music and Music Production. Christy receives this award to recognize her high level of skill in audio production, her tremendous work ethic, and for her mentorship of undergraduate student techs. Christy is a modern artist, a master of technology and a solid team player. Collis will miss her!
This fundraising event took place on a late Friday afternoon this past February in Common Ground. The organizers were put in a tight spot as the event was hemmed in by adjacent programming. Setup and rehearsals were somewhat hectic and rushed, but things finally got off the ground around 5pm. Fusion, Raaz, Rockapellas and the Dodecaphonics delivered memorable performances.
It was a concentrated effort, especially with the tight turnaround, it was wonderful to stand back and watch as the organizers, performers, and fundraising groups “made it work.”
